Ibn ‘Umar said that he heard God’s messenger say when with his hair matted he raised his voice in the talbiya, “Labbaik, O God, labbaik labbaik; Thou hast no partner; labbaik; praise and grace are Thine, and the dominion; Thou hast no partner,” saying nothing more than these words. Bukhari and Muslim.

Sahl b. Sa‘d reported God’s messenger as saying, “No Muslim raises his voice in the talbiya without all on his right and left’, stones, or trees, or clods, doing the same till the earth is traversed on both sides,” Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

Ibn ‘Abbas said that after God’s messenger had prayed the noon prayer at Dhul Hulaifa he called for his she-camel, marked it on the right side of its hump, removed the blood from it, and tied two sandals on its neck. He then mounted his riding-beast, and when it brought him up to al-Baida’ he raised his voice in the talbiya for the pilgrimage. Muslim transmitted it.

Malik said he heard that Ibn ‘Abbas used to shorten the prayer on a journey equivalent to that between Mecca and at-Ta'if, or between Mecca and ‘Usfan, or between Mecca and Judda. Malik said that that was four postal stages. He transmitted it in al-Muwatta’.

Ibn ‘Umar said God’s messenger prescribed as the zakat payable by slave and freeman, male and female, young and old among the Muslims on breaking the fast of Ramadan a sa'* of dried dates or a sa' of barley, and gave command that this should be paid before the people went out to prayer. (Bukhari and Muslim.) * The Hijazi sa' is described as a measure equivalent to four mudds, the mudd being the amount a man with average size hands can hold with both hands extended.

God’s messenger was brought some bread and meat when he was in the mosque, and he ate and we ate along with him. He then stood up and prayed and we prayed along with him, doing no more than wiping our hands with pebbles. Ibn Majah transmitted it.

When the first civil strife occurred, i.e., the assassination of `Uthman, not one of those who had been at Badr remained; when the second occurred, i.e., the Harra, not one of those who had been at al-Hudaibiya remained; and the third [1] one occurred and did not disappear while there was intelligence among the people.[2] 1. Probably a reference to 'Abdallah b. az-Zubair who claimed the Caliphate and was killed in 73 A.H. when al-Hajjaj stormed Mecca. 2. See Bukhari, Maghazi, 12, where the wording is slightly different. Qastallani remarks that tabakh means `intelligence,' but some say 'strength' and also `remains of good in the religion'. I have used the meaning he prefers, but one might use 'strength' which is said to be the basic meaning. Lane gives 'firmness,' 'soundness,' `strength and fatness', 'intelligence' and `good,' Cf. Mirqat. v, 153. Bukhari transmitted it.

Ibn Mas'ud reported God's messenger as saying, "Mankind will go down to hell and then come up from it because of their deeds, the first of them like a flash of lightning, next like the wind, next like a horse's gallop, next like one riding on his pack-saddle, next like a man's running, next like his walking." Tirmidhi and Darimi transmitted it.

Ibn 'Abbas reported God's messenger as saying, "Being given information is not like seeing. God most high gave Moses information about what his people had done regarding the calf and he did not throw down the tablets, but when he saw what they did he threw down the tablets and they were broken." Ahmad transmitted the three traditions.

Ibn 'Abbas said, "When you want to mention your companion's faults, remember your own faults."

Ibn 'Abbas spoke about the words of Allah Almighty, "Do not find fault with one another" (49:11) and he said that these words mean, "Do not attack one another."

'Abdullah ibn 'Amr ibn al-'As reported that it reached him that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "Anyone who does not show mercy to our children nor acknowledge the right of our old people is not one of us."

Ibn 'Umar reported that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "The believer who mixes with people and endures their injury is better than the person who does not mix with people nor endure their injury."

"Fear Allah and put things right between you," (8:1), Ibn 'Abbas said, "This is an injunction from Allah to the believers to fear Allah and to put things right between them."

Anas ibn Malik said, "Abu Talha used to kneel before the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and sprinkle water on his quiver and say:

Abu Hurayra said, "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, forbade for someone to have both his name and his kunya. He said, 'I am Abu'l-Qasim. Allah gives and I distribute.'"

(sic) Abu'z-Zinad said, "Kharija (ibn Zayd ibn Thabit) used to write on the letter of Zayd when he said the salam, 'Peace be upon you, Amir al-Mu'minin, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings and His forgiveness and the best of His prayers."

A man said: “I touched my penis” or he said, “Does a man who touch his penis during the prayer should perform Wudu (ablution)?” The Prophet (saw) replied, “No, it is only a part of your body”. [Reported by Al-Khamsa. Ibn Hibban graded it Sahih (sound).

Ibn ‘Abbas (RAA) narrated, ‘Once the Messenger of Allah (P.B.U.H.) passed by some graves in Madinah. He turned his face toward them saying, “Peace be upon you, O dwellers of these graves. May Allah forgive you and us. You have preceded us, and we are following your trail." Related by At-Tirmidhi, who graded it as Hasan.

'Ali (RAA) narrated, 'Allah's Messenger (PBUH) enjoined us to pay great attention to the eye and the ear and not sacrifice a one-eyed animal with a slit which leaves something hanging at the front or back of the ear, or with a perforation in the ear, or an animal with broken front teeth.' Related by Ahmad and the four Imams. At-Tirmidhi, Ibn Hibban and Al-Hakim graded it as Sahih.

Ghailan bin Salamah accepted Islam and he had ten wives who accepted Islam along with him. So, the Prophet (SAW) commanded him to, "Choose four of them." [Reported by Ahmad and at-Tirmidhi. Ibn Hibban and al-Hakim graded it Sahih (authentic); but al-Bukhari, Abu Zur'ah and Abu Hatim considered it defective].

The Prophet (SAW) returned his daughter Zainab (RA) to [her husband] Abul-'Aas bin ar-Rabi' (RA) based upon the first marriage, after six years (of separation), and he did not perform a new marriage. [Reported by Ahmad and al-Arba'a except an-Nasa'i. Ahmad and al-Hakim graded it Sahih (authentic)].

When 'Ali (RA) married Fatimah (RA) Allah's Messenger (SAW) said to him, "Give her something (as dowry)." He replied, "I have nothing." He said, "Where is your Hutamiya coat of mail?" [Reported by Abu Dawud and an-Nasa'i; al-Hakim graded it Sahih (authentic)].

Allah's Messenger (SAW) used to divide visits to his wives equally and say, "O Allah, this is my division concerning what I possess, so do not blame me concerning what You possess and I do not." [Reported by al-Arba'a; Ibn Hibban and al-Hakim graded it Sahih (authentic). at-Tirmidhi held that the stronger view is that it is Mursal (a missing link in the chain after the Tabi'i)].

A man came to the Prophet (SAW) and said, "My wife rejects no hand of a man who wished to touch her." He said, "Banish her." He replied, "I am afraid my soul may desire her." He said, "Then enjoy her." [Reported by Abu Dawud and al-Bazzar, and its narrators are reliable].

'Umar (RA) forbade the sale of the slave-women who have given birth to children (of their owners). He said, "She is not to be sold, bestowed as a gift or inherited. He (the owner) enjoys her as long as he lives and when he dies, she becomes free." [Reported by Malik an al-Baihaqi. He said: Some of the narrators have attributed it to the Prophet (SAW) mistakenly].

We were brought before the Prophet (SAW) on the day of Quraizah. Those who had began to grow hair (on their private parts) were killed, while who had not, were set free. I was among those who had not begun to grow hair, so I was set free. [Reported by al-Arba'a. Ibn Hibban and al-Hakim graded it Sahih (authentic)].

he must testify that there is no god but God and that I am God’s messenger whom He sent with the truth ; he must believe in death and in the resurrection after death; and he must believe in the divine decree." Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

Laqit b. Sabira said that he asked God's messenger to tell him about ablution and he replied, “Perform ablution completely, let the water run between the fingers and toes,* and snuff up water freely unless you are fasting!’ *In the text only asabi’ is used, but this word is used for either fingers or toes, and on the analogy of the following traditions I have translated it as above. There it says “the asabi’ of your hands and your feet". Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi and Nasa’i transmitted it, and Ibn Majah and Darimi transmitted it up to “between the fingers and toes”.

‘Abdallah b. ‘Amr b. al-‘As said that the Prophet came upon Sa'd when he was performing ablution and asked, “What is the meaning of this extravagance, Sa'd?” He replied, “Is there extravagance in ablution?” He said, “Yes, even if you are beside a flowing river.’’ Ahmad and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

Abu Huraira reported God's messenger as saying, “There is sexual defilement under every hair, so wash the hair and cleanse the skin.” Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah transmitted it, and Tirmidhi said, “This is a gharib tradition, and al-Harith b. Wajih who is the transmitter is a shaikh one cannot trust.”

Hisham b. ‘Amir told that the Prophet said on the day of Uhud, “Dig graves, make them wide, deep and beautiful, bury two or three together in a single grave, and put first the one who knew most of the Qur’an.” Ahmad, Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud and Nasa'i transmitted it, and Ibn Majah transmitted up to “beautiful”.

Ja'far b. Muhammad told in mursal form on his father’s authority that the Prophet cast three handfuls of earth on the dead with both hands, that he sprinkled water on his son Ibrahim’s grave, and that he put small pebbles on it. It is transmitted in Sharh as-sunna, and Shafi’i transmitted from “he sprinkled".

a man who, having been given [knowledge of] the Qur’ān by God, stands reciting it during the night and during the day; and a man who having been given property by God, spends on others from it during the night and during the day.” (Bukhārī and Muslim.)

Abū Huraira reported God’s messenger as saying, “A sūra in the Qur’ān containing thirty verses interceded for a man till his sins were forgiven. It was ‘Blessed is He in whose hand is the kingdom.'” (Qur’ān, 67) Ahmad, Tirmidhī, Abū Dāwūd, Nasā’i and Ibn Mājah transmitted it.

Abu Huraira reported God's Messenger as saying, "On the night when I was taken up to heaven I came upon people whose bellies were like houses and contained snakes which could be seen from outside their bellies. I asked Gabriel who they were and he told me that they were people who had practised usury.” Ahmad and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

On his father’s authority he said his grandfather told of a man coming to the Prophet and saying, “I am poor with no possessions and I have an orphan to care for.” He replied, “Eat from your orphan’s property, provided you are not extravagant, or take anything before you need it, or store up any of it.” Abu Dawud, Nasa’i and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

God’s Messenger presented me with two youths who were brothers, and when I sold one of them God’s Messenger asked me, “What has happened to your young man, ‘Ali?” When I told him he said, “Get him back, get him back.” Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah and Darimi transmitted something similar on the authority of Sulaiman b. Yasar quoting Salama b. Sakhr who said, “I was a man who was more given than others to sexual intercourse.” Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah and Darimi transmitted. The version of Abu Dawud and Darimi has, “Feed sixty poor people with a camel-load of dates.

Jabir reported God’s Messenger as saying, “If anyone swears a false oath near this pulpit of mine, even though it be about a green tooth stick, he will come to his place in hell,” or, “he will certainly go to hell.” Malik, Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah transmitted.

‘Abdallah b. Busr told of a man saying, “Messenger of God, the ordinances of Islam are too many for me, so tell me something to which I may cling.” He replied, “Your tongue will continue to be supple by making mention of God.” Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah transmitted it. Tirmidhi saying this is a hasan gharib tradition.

Ibn ‘Abbas reported God’s messenger as stating that God has said, “If anyone knows that I have power to forgive sins I will pardon him and not care, so long as he associatesi nothing with me.” It is transmitted in Sharh as-sunna.

The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) rode a horse and fell down from it and his right side was grazed, and the rest of the hadith is the same, and (these words) are found in it:" When he (the Imam) says prayer in an erect posture, you should also say it in an erect posture."

The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: When any one of you (women) participates in the 'Isha' prayer, she should not perfume herself that night.

I called upon the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him)."

He who observed prayer at night during Ramadan, because of faith and seeking his reward from Allah, his previous sins would be forgiven.

The acts most pleasing to Allah are those which are done continuously, even if they are small. and when 'A'isha did any act she did it continuously.

" He who finds it hard (to recite the Qur'an) will have a double reward."

Do not sit on the graves and do not pray facing towards them.

The dawn is not like it as it is said; he then gathered his fingers and lowered them. But he said, it is like this (and he placed the index finger upon the other one and spread his hand).

A poet praised Bilal bin 'Abdullah and said: "Bilal bin 'Abdullah is better than any other Bilal." Ibn 'Umar said: 'You are lying. The Bilal of the Messenger of Allah is better than any other Bilal.'"

"The Messenger of Allah embraced me and said: 'O Allah, teach him wisdom and the (correct) interpretation of the Book.'"

"The Messenger of Allah said: 'Your Lord wrote for Himself with His Own Hand before He created the creation: "My mercy precedes My wrath."

"The Messenger of Allah said: 'The key to prayer is purification, its opening is to say 'Allahu Akbar' and its closing is to say As-salamu 'alaikum.'"

"If the Messenger of Allah wanted to eat when he was sexually impure, he would perform ablution."

The Messenger of Allah used to pray 'Asr when the sun was still hot and high, and if a person were to go to the suburbs (of Al-Madinah) he would be able to reach it while the sun was still hot and high.

"The Quran will come on the Day of Resurrection, like a pale man, and will say: 'I am the one that kept you awake at night and made you thirsty during the day."

"If anyone of you knew what is wrong with being alone, no one would travel at night by himself."

"A male devil chasing a female devil."

"If one of you consults his brother, then let him advise him."

"O Allah, bear witness that I have issued a warning concerning (failure to fulfill) the rights of the two weak ones: Orphans and women.'"

that the Messenger of Allah said: “There is no breastfeeding except that which fills the stomach.”

the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "The Pen is lifted from the minor, the insane person and the sleeper."

a man invoked curses on his wife, and refused to accept her child. The Messenger of Allah (SAW) separated them, and left the child with the woman.

The Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: 'Whoever takes an oath to follow a religion other than Islam, telling a deliberate lie, he will be as he said.'"

'The trustworthy, honest Muslim merchant will be with the martyrs on the Day of Resurrection."

“When the last ten days of Ramadan began, the Prophet (saw) used to stay up at night, tighten his waist- wrap, and wake up his family (to pray).”

“The killer does not inherit.”

“Allah and His Messenger forbid you to eat the flesh of domesticated donkeys, for it is filthy.”

“At the time of the Messenger of Allah (saw) we used to eat while walking, and drink while standing up.”

“The Prophet (saw) passed by some people who were shooting (arrows) and said: ‘Shoot, Banu Isma’il, for your father was an archer.’”

“Whoever wears silk in this world will not wear it in the Hereafter.”

“The Messenger of Allah (saw) had hair that came between his earlobes and his shoulders.”

“The one who fights in the cause of Allah, and the pilgrim performing Hajj and ‘Umrah are a delegation to Allah. He invited them, so they responded to Him, and they ask Him and He gives to them.”

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Umar that the Messenger of Allah (saw) used to enter Makkah from the upper mountain pass and when he left, he would leave from the lower mountain pass.

“I saw the Messenger of Allah (saw) stoning ‘Aqabah Pillar at forenoon, but after that day, he would do it after the sun had passed its zenith.”

“The Prophet (saw) did not allow anyone to stay overnight in Makkah apart from ‘Abbas, for the purpose of supplying water to the pilgrims.”

“The people were going in all directions, and the Messenger of Allah (saw) said: ‘No one should depart until the last thing he does is (Tawaf around) the House.’”

“On rainy nights or on cold windy nights, the Messenger of Allah (saw) would summon his announcer to call out: ‘Perform your prayer at your camps.’”

“Perform your prayer at your camps.”

“The Messenger of Allah (saw) said: ‘Do not lift your gaze to the heavens lest your sight be snatched away,” meaning during prayer.

“When the Prophet (saw) prayed the two (Sunnah) Rak’ah of Fajr, he would lie down on his right side.”

“Your Prophet (saw) was enjoined to do fifty prayers but he returned to your Lord to make (i.e., reduce) them to five prayers.”

“We were with the Messenger of Allah (SAW) and we all had a single focus, but when he passed away we started to look here and there (i.e., have different interests).”

“Whoever plunders openly is not one of us.”

“Beware of tribulations, for at that time the tongue will be like the blow of a sword.”

“The believer should not be stung from the same hole twice.”

“I heard the Prophet (saw) say: ‘There is nothing left of this world except trials and tribulations.’”

“I heard the Messenger of Allah (saw) say: ‘You complete seventy nations, of which you are the best and dearest to Allah.’”

I know that you are only a stone. Were it not that I saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) kiss you, I would not have kissed you.

When Abu Bakr died, people wept for him. `Umar said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: `The deceased is tormented because of the weeping of the living.”

l saw the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) wipe over his leather slippers (khuff, whilst travelling.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Sleeping early in the day leads to withholding of provision.”

I was a man who emitted a great deal of madhi, and I told a man to ask the Prophet (ﷺ) about that. He said: `Wudoo’ should be done for that.”
