Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 873
'Abdu'l-Malik ibn Marwan entrusted the teaching of his children
to ash-Sha'bi and said, "Teach them poetry so that they will possess dignity
and vigor. Feed them meat so that their hearts will be strong. Cut off
their hair so that their necks will be strong. Make them sit with men of
distinction who will contradict them in words."
حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي مَعْنٌ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي عُمَرُ بْنُ سَلاَّمٍ، أَنَّ عَبْدَ الْمَلِكِ بْنَ مَرْوَانَ دَفَعَ وَلَدَهُ إِلَى الشَّعْبِيِّ يُؤَدِّبُهُمْ، فَقَالَ: عَلِّمْهُمُ الشِّعْرَ يَمْجُدُوا وَيُنْجِدُوا، وَأَطْعِمْهُمُ اللَّحْمَ تَشْتَدُّ قُلُوبُهُمْ، وَجُزَّ شُعُورَهُمْ تَشْتَدُّ رِقَابُهُمْ، وَجَالِسْ بِهِمْ عِلْيَةَ الرِّجَالِ يُنَاقِضُوهُمُ الْكَلامَ.

'Abdullah ibn 'Amr ibn al-'As said, "Someone who plays dice for
a bet is like a person who eats pig meat. Someone who plays it without betting
is like someone who washes his hands in pig's blood."

It is narrated by Jabir that he heard the Messenger of Allah (saws) say, "If a believing man or a believing woman or a Muslim man or Muslim woman falls ill then Allah, the exalted, forgives them their sins (because of their illness)."

Bulugh al-Maram 574
Ibn 'Umar (RAA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (P.B.U.H.) said, “When you place your deceased in the grave, say, ‘In the Name of Allah, and in accordance with the tradition of Allah’s Messenger (P.B.U.H.).” Related by Ahmad, Abu Dawud and An-Nasa’i.
وَعَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا, عَنِ النَّبِيِّ - صلى الله عليه وسلم -قَالَ: { إِذَا وَضَعْتُمْ مَوْتَاكُمْ فِي الْقُبُورِ, فَقُولُوا: بِسْمِ اللَّهِ, وَعَلَى مِلَّةِ رَسُولِ اَللَّهِ - صلى الله عليه وسلم -. } أَخْرَجَهُ أَحْمَدُ, وَأَبُو دَاوُدَ, وَالنَّسَائِيُّ, وَصَحَّحَهُ ابْنُ حِبَّانَ, وَأَعَلَّهُ الدَّارَقُطْنِيُّ بِالْوَقْف ِ 1 .

Ibn 'Umar (RAA) narrated that The Messenger of Allah (P.B.U.H.) said, “If a man holds another man so that a third man can kill the seized one, then the one who killed is to be killed (in Qisas) and the one who seized the killed one is to be imprisoned.” Related by Ad-Daraqutni. Ibn al-Qattan graded it as Sahih and its narrators are trustworthy.
وَعَنْ اِبْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اَللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا, عَنْ اَلنَّبِيِّ - صلى الله عليه وسلم -قَالَ: { إِذَا أَمْسَكَ اَلرَّجُلُ اَلرَّجُلَ, وَقَتَلَهُ اَلْآخَرُ, يُقْتَلُ اَلَّذِي قَتَلَ, وَيُحْبَسُ اَلَّذِي أَمْسَكَ } رَوَاهُ اَلدَّارَقُطْنِيُّ مَوْصُولًا وَمُرْسَلًا, وَصَحَّحَهُ اِبْنُ اَلْقَطَّانِ, وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ, إِلَّا أَنَّ اَلْبَيْهَقِيَّ رَجَّحَ اَلْمُرْسَلَ 1 .

'Imran bin Husain (RAA) narrated, ’Ya’la bin Umaiyah fought with another man. One of them bit the other man’s finger and the latter (whose finger was bit) pulled his hand out of the first man’s mouth (who was biting) by force, causing his incisors teeth to be pulled out. They presented their dispute to the Prophet who said, “One of you bit his brother as a male camel bites? Go and there is not Diyah for him (as a punishment for their foolishness).’Agreed upon and the wording is from Muslim.
وَعَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ رَضِيَ اَللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: { قَاتَلَ يُعْلَى بْنُ أُمِّيَّةَ رَجُلًا, فَعَضَّ أَحَدُهُمَا صَاحِبَهُ, فَنَزَعَ ثَنِيَّتَهُ, فَاخْتَصَمَا إِلَى اَلنَّبِيِّ - صلى الله عليه وسلم -فَقَالَ:
"أَيَعَضُّ أَحَدُكُمْ أَخَاهُ كَمَا يَعَضُّ اَلْفَحْلُ? لَا دِيَةَ لَهُ" } مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ, وَاللَّفْظُ لِمُسْلِمٍ. 1 .

Bulugh al-Maram 1418
Narrated 'Umar bin al-Khattab (RA):
He addressed the people and said, "People were sometimes judged by the revealing of a Divine Revelation during the lifetime of Allah's Messenger (SAW), but now the Divine Revelation has been discontinued [i.e. there is no longer any new revelation coming]. Now we judge you by the deeds you practice publicly."
[Reported by al-Bukhari].
وَعَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ اَلْخَطَّابِ - رضى الله عنه - { أَنَّهُ خَطَبَ فَقَالَ: إِنَّ أُنَاسً ا 1 كَانُوا يُؤْخَذُونَ بِالْوَحْيِ فِي عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اَللَّهِ - صلى الله عليه وسلم -وَإِنَّ اَلْوَحْيَ قَدْ اِنْقَطَعَ, وَإِنَّمَا نَأْخُذُكُم ْ 2 اَلْآنَ بِمَا ظَهَرَ لَنَا مِنْ أَعْمَالِكُمْ } رَوَاهُ اَلْبُخَارِيّ ُ 3 .

Narrated 'Aishah (RA):
'Amrah (RA) daughter al-Jaun sought refuge (in Allah) from Allah's Messenger (SAW) when she was brought in to him - meaning when he married her - and he said, "You have sought refuge in the One Worthy of seeking refuge in." Then he divorced her, and commanded Usama who gave her three garments as a gift (i.e. dowry).
[Ibn Majah reported it, but there is a rejected narrator in its chain of narrators].
وَعَنْ عَائِشَةَ -رَضِيَ اَللَّهُ عَنْهَا- { أَنَّ عَمْرَةَ بِنْتَ اَلْجَوْنِ تَعَوَّذَتْ مِنْ رَسُولِ اَللَّهِ - صلى الله عليه وسلم -حِينَ أُدْخِلَتْ عَلَيْهِ - تَعْنِي: لَمَّا تَزَوَّجَهَا - فَقَالَ :
" لَقَدْ عُذْتِ بِمَعَاذٍ " , فَطَلَّقَهَا , وَأَمَرَ أُسَامَةَ فَمَتَّعَهَا بِثَلَاثَةِ أَثْوَابٍ } أَخْرَجَهُ اِبْنُ مَاجَهْ , وَفِي إِسْنَادِهِ رَاوٍ مَتْرُوكٌ 1 .

A narration of Muslim has:
"Ibn 'Umar (RA) said, 'If you had only made one or two pronouncements of divorce [it would have been better]. Indeed Allah's Messenger (SAW) commanded me to take her back, then keep her till she has another period, then give her a reprieve till she is purified, then divorce her before having intercourse with her. As for you, you have divorced her with three pronouncements (at once), and have therefore disobeyed your Rabb (your Lord, the Creator) concerning what He commanded you regarding divorcing your wife.'"
وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ لِمُسْلِمٍ : قَالَ اِبْنُ عُمَرَ : { أَمَّا أَنْتَ طَلَّقْتَهَا وَاحِدَةً أَوْ اِثْنَتَيْنِ ; فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اَللَّهِ - صلى الله عليه وسلم -أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أُرَاجِعَهَا , ثُمَّ أُمْهِلَهَا حَتَّى تَحِيضَ حَيْضَةً أُخْرَى , وَأَمَّا أَنْتَ طَلَّقْتَهَا ثَلَاثًا , فَقَدْ عَصَيْتَ رَبَّكَ فِيمَا أَمَرَكَ مِنْ طَلَاقِ اِمْرَأَتِكَ } 1 .

Narrated Ibn 'Umar (RA):
The Prophet (SAW) said, "A woman was punished on account of a cat which she held captive till it died. Hence, she entered the Hell-Fire due to (her mistreatment of) the cat. She did not feed it or give it water while she held it captive, nor did she let it out so that it may eat the things that creep on the earth."

وَعَنْ اِبْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اَللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا; عَنْ اَلنَّبِيِّ - صلى الله عليه وسلم -قَالَ: { عُذِّبَتْ اِمْرَأَةٌ فِي هِرَّةٍ سَجَنَتْهَا حَتَّى مَاتَتْ, فَدَخَلْتِ اَلنَّارَ فِيهَا, لَا هِيَ أَطْعَمَتْهَا وَسَقَتْهَا إِذْ هِيَ حَبَسَتْهَا, وَلَا هِيَ تَرَكَتْهَا, تَأْكُلُ مِنْ خَشَاشِ اَلْأَرْضِ } مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ 1 .

Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar (RA):
Allah's Messenger (SAW) said, "The right to inheritance from a freed slave is a relationship like the relationship of blood relatives (lineage); it cannot be sold or given away."
[al-Hakim reported it through ash-Shafi'i's narration from Muhammad bin al-Hasan on the authority of Abu Yusuf. Ibn Hibban graded it Sahih (authentic), while al-Baihaqi graded it defective].
وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اَللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ - رَضِيَ اَللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا- قَالَ : قَالَ اَلنَّبِيُّ - صلى الله عليه وسلم -{ اَلْوَلَاءُ لُحْمَةٌ كَلُحْمَةِ اَلنَّسَبِ , لَا يُبَاعُ , وَلَا يُوهَبُ } رَوَاهُ اَلْحَاكِمُ : مِنْ طَرِيقِ اَلشَّافِعِيِّ , عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ اَلْحَسَنِ , عَنْ أَبِي يُوسُفَ ، وَصَحَّحَهُ اِبْنُ حِبَّانَ , وَأَعَلَّهُ اَلْبَيْهَقِيُّ 1 .

Narrated Ibn 'Umar and 'Aishah (RA):
Allah's Messenger (SAW) said, "Bilal calls for prayer when it is still night, so eat and drink till Ibn Umm Maktum calls for prayer." And he (Ibn Umm Maktum) was a blind man who did not call for a prayer until he was told: "It is morning time, it is morning time."

وَعَنْ اِبْنِ عُمَرَ, وَعَائِشَةَ قَالَا: قَالَ رَسُولُ اَللَّهِ - صلى الله عليه وسلم -{ إِنَّ بِلَالاً يُؤَذِّنُ بِلَيْلٍ, فَكُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا حَتَّى يُنَادِيَ اِبْنُ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ", وَكَانَ رَجُلاً أَعْمَى لَا يُنَادِي, حَتَّى يُقَالَ لَهُ: أَصْبَحْتَ, أَصْبَحْتَ } مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ 1 .

It was reported from ‘Ubaydullāh ibn ‘Abdullāh that ‘Umar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb asked Abu Waqid al-Laythi what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to recite in the (Eid) prayers of al-Adhā and al-Fitr. He said, "He used to recite Qāf wal-qur’ānil majeed (Sūrah Qāf) and Iqtarabat al-sā’atul wanshaqqal qamar (Sūrah al-Qamar).”

‘Imran said:
While we were on a journey with the Prophet he led the people in the prayer, and when he turned away after the prayer he saw a man apart who had not prayed along with the people. He asked him what had prevented him from praying along with the company, and when the man replied that he was affected by
seminal defilement and had no water, he said, “Make use of earth, for it is enough for you.”

وَعَن عمرَان بن حُصَيْن الْخُزَاعِيِّ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: رأى رجلا مُعْتَزِلا لم يصل فِي الْقَوْم فَقَالَ: «يَا فلَان مَا مَنعك أَن تصلي فِي الْقَوْم فَقَالَ يَا رَسُول الله أَصَابَتْنِي جَنَابَةٌ وَلَا مَاءَ قَالَ عَلَيْكَ بِالصَّعِيدِ فَإِنَّهُ يَكْفِيك»

Ibn ‘Umar reported God’s messenger as saying, “Do not fast till you see the new moon, and do not break your fast till you see it; but if the weather is cloudy calculate when it should appear.” In a version he said, “The month consists of twenty-nine days, but do not fast till you see it, and if the weather is cloudy wait till thirty days of the previous month have passed.”

Mishkat al-Masabih 1971
Ibn ‘Umar reported God’s messenger as saying, “We are an unlettered people who can neither write nor count. The month is thus and thus and thus,” drawing in his thumb when he said it the third time.* Then he said, “The month is thus and thus and thus,” meaning a complete thirty days. He meant alternately twenty-nine and thirty.
*Spreading out the ten fingers the first two times and nine the third time.

وَعَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَنَا أمة أُميَّة لَا تكْتب وَلَا تحسب الشَّهْرُ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا» . وَعَقَدَ الْإِبْهَامَ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ. ثُمَّ قَالَ: «الشَّهْرُ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا» . يَعْنِي تَمَامَ الثَّلَاثِينَ يَعْنِي مَرَّةً تِسْعًا وَعِشْرِينَ وَمرَّة ثَلَاثِينَ "

Mishkat al-Masabih 1717
‘Abdallah b. ‘Umar said he heard the Prophet say, “When one of you dies do not keep him long, but take him quickly to his grave, and have the opening verses of sura al-Baqara recited at his head and the concluding verses of the same sura at his feet.”
Baihaqi transmitted it in Shu'ab al-iman, saying the correct view is that it does not go farther back than him.
وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «إِذَا مَاتَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلَا تَحْبِسُوهُ وَأَسْرِعُوا بِهِ إِلَى قَبْرِهِ وَلْيُقْرَأْ عِنْدَ رَأْسِهِ فَاتِحَةُ الْبَقَرَةِ وَعِنْدَ رِجْلَيْهِ بِخَاتِمَةِ الْبَقَرَةِ» . رَوَاهُ الْبَيْهَقِيُّ فِي شُعَبِ الْإِيمَان. وَقَالَ: وَالصَّحِيح أَنه مَوْقُوف عَلَيْهِ

Mishkat al-Masabih 1745
An-Nu‘man b. Bashir said that when ‘Abdallah b. Rawaha fainted his sister ‘Amra began to weep and shout, “Alas for the mountain! (The word which basically means a mountain is also used for a chief. In the next tradition from Abu Musa two expressions are used, one being the same as here and the other using a normal word for a chief. I have therefore kept the flavour of the original by retaining the word mountain) Alas for such and such! Alas for such and such !” eulogising him. When he came round he said, “I was asked about everything you said whether I am like that.” A version has the addition that when he died she did not weep for him.
Bukhari tranmitted it.
وَعَنِ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ قَالَ: أُغْمِيَ عَلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ رَوَاحَةَ فَجَعَلَتْ أُخْتُهُ عَمْرَةُ تبْكي: واجبلاه واكذا واكذا تُعَدِّدُ عَلَيْهِ فَقَالَ حِينَ أَفَاقَ: مَا قُلْتِ شَيْئًا إِلَّا قِيلَ لِي: أَنْتَ كَذَلِكَ؟ زَادَ فِي رِوَايَةٍ فَلَمَّا مَاتَ لَمْ تَبْكِ عَلَيْهِ. رَوَاهُ البُخَارِيّ

Mishkat al-Masabih 1747
Abu Huraira said that a member of the family of God’s messenger died and that the women gathered and wept for him. ‘Umar then arose and forbade and repulsed them, but God’s messenger said, “Let them alone, ‘Umar, for the eye is tearful, the heart is afflicted, and the matter has happened recently.”
Ahmad and Nasa’i transmitted it.
وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ: مَاتَ مَيِّتٌ مِنْ آلِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَاجْتَمَعَ النِّسَاءُ يَبْكِينَ عَلَيْهِ فَقَامَ عُمَرُ يَنْهَاهُنَّ وَيَطْرُدُهُنَّ. فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «دَعْهُنَّ فَإِنَّ الْعَيْنَ دَامِعَةٌ وَالْقَلْبَ مُصَابٌ وَالْعَهْدَ قَرِيبٌ» . رَوَاهُ أَحْمد وَالنَّسَائِيّ

Mishkat al-Masabih 2812
‘Umar reported God's Messenger as saying, "Gold for gold is usury unless both hand over on the spot*; silver for silver is usury unless both hand over on the spot; wheat for wheat is usury unless both hand over on the spot; barley for barley is usury unless both hand over on the spot; dates for dates is usury unless both hand over on the spot."

Mishkat al-Masabih 2875
Ibn ‘Umar reported God’s Messenger as saying, “If anyone buys palm-trees after they have been fecundated the fruit belongs to the seller unless the buyer makes a proviso; and if anyone buys a slave who possesses property his property belongs to the seller unless the buyer makes a proviso."
Muslim transmitted it and Bukhari transmitted something to the same effect as the first part alone.
عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «مَنِ ابْتَاعَ نَخْلًا بَعْدَ أَنْ تُؤَبَّرَ فَثَمَرَتُهَا لِلْبَائِعِ إِلَّا أَنْ يَشْتَرِطَ الْمُبْتَاعُ وَمَنِ ابْتَاعَ عَبْدًا وَلَهُ مَالٌ فَمَالُهُ لِلْبَائِعِ إِلَّا أَنْ يَشْتَرِطَ الْمُبْتَاعُ» . رَوَاهُ مُسلم وروى البُخَارِيّ الْمَعْنى الأول وَحده

Mishkat al-Masabih 3718
Ibn ‘Umar reported the Prophet as saying, “The sultan is God’s shade on the earth to which each one of His servants who is wronged repairs. When he is just he will have a reward, and it is the duty of the common people to be grateful; but when he acts tyrannically the burden rests on him, and it is the duty of the common people to show endurance.”
Baihaqi transmitted in Shuab al iman.
وَعَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «إِنَّ السُّلْطَانَ ظِلُّ اللَّهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ يَأْوِي إِلَيْهِ كُلُّ مَظْلُومٍ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ فَإِذَا عَدَلَ كَانَ لَهُ الْأَجْرُ وَعَلَى الرَّعِيَّةِ الشُّكْرُ وَإِذَا جَارَ كَانَ عَلَيْهِ الْإِصْرُ وعَلى الرّعية الصَّبْر»

Mishkat al-Masabih 3444
‘Imran b. Husain told that he heard God’s Messenger say, “Vows are of two kinds, so if anyone vows to do an act of obedience, that is for God and must be fulfilled; but if anyone vows, to do an act of disobedience, that is for the devil and must not be fulfilled, but he must make atonement for it to the extent he would do in the case of an oath.”
عَن عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ:
" النَّذْرُ نَذْرَانِ: فَمَنْ كَانَ نَذَرَ فِي طَاعَةٍ فَذَلِكَ لِلَّهِ فِيهِ الْوَفَاءُ وَمَنْ كَانَ نَذَرَ فِي مَعْصِيَةٍ فَذَلِكَ لِلشَّيْطَانِ وَلَا وَفَاء فِيهِ وَيُكَفِّرُهُ مَا يُكَفِّرُ الْيَمِينَ ". رَوَاهُ النَّسَائِيُّ

Umar b. Abu Salama reported:
I saw the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) praying in Umm Salama's house in a single garment, placing its two ends over his shoulders.

'Asim reported - I heard Anas saying:

Do not fast till you see the new moon, and do not break fast till you see it; but if the weather is cloudy calculate about it.

The month of Ramadan may consist of twenty-nine days. So do not fast till you have sighted it (the new moon) and do not break fast, till you have sighted it (the new moon of Shawwal), and if the sky is cloudy for you, then calculate.
وَحَدَّثَنِي زُهَيْرُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، - رضى الله عنهما - قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم

Sunan Ibn Majah 106
It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin Salimah said:
"I heard 'Ali say: 'The best of people after the Messenger of Allah is Abu Bakr, and the best of people after Abu Bakr is 'Umar.'"

"The likeness of the Quran is that of a hobbled camel. If its owner ties its rope, he will keep it, but if he loosens its rope it will go away."

“I heard the Messenger of Allah (SAW) say: 'Whoever gives a lifelong grant to a man, it belongs to him (the recipient) and to his heirs. His (the giver's) words put an end to his right to it, and it belongs to the one to whom it was given for life and to his heirs.”

“The wives of the Prophet (saw) were
allowed to let their hems hang down, so they used to come to us and

pilgrims, and he gave him permission.

Musnad Ahmad 1293
It was narrated from Qatadah that he heard Jurayy bin Kulaib narrate that he heard ‘Ali (رضي الله عنه) say:
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) forbade (sacrificing) an animal that had lost most of its horn or ear.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ الْقَوَارِيرِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدٌ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جُرَيَّ بْنَ كُلَيْبٍ، يُحَدِّثُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ عَلِيًّا، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَقُولُ نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ عَضْبَاءِ الْقَرْنِ وَالْأُذُنِ.

Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafi that Safiyya bint Abi Ubayd told him that Hafsa, umm al-muminin, sent Asim ibn Abdullah ibn Sad to her sister Fatima bint Umar ibn al-Khattab for her to suckle him ten times so that he could come in to see her. She did it, so he used to come in to see her.
وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، أَنَّ صَفِيَّةَ بِنْتَ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ، أَخْبَرَتْهُ أَنَّ حَفْصَةَ أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَرْسَلَتْ بِعَاصِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ إِلَى أُخْتِهَا فَاطِمَةَ بِنْتِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ تُرْضِعُهُ عَشْرَ رَضَعَاتٍ لِيَدْخُلَ عَلَيْهَا وَهُوَ صَغِيرٌ يَرْضَعُ فَفَعَلَتْ فَكَانَ يَدْخُلُ عَلَيْهَا .

Yahya related to me from Malih from Nafi from Abdullah ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, forbade the transaction called habal alhabala. It was a transaction which the people of Jahiliya practised. A man would buy the unborn offspring of the unborn offspring of a she-camel.
حَدَّثَنِي يَحْيَى، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم نَهَى عَنْ بَيْعِ حَبَلِ الْحَبَلَةِ . وَكَانَ بَيْعًا يَتَبَايَعُهُ أَهْلُ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ كَانَ الرَّجُلُ يَبْتَاعُ الْجَزُورَ إِلَى أَنْ تُنْتَجَ النَّاقَةُ . ثُمَّ تُنْتَجَ الَّتِي فِي بَطْنِهَا .

Malik related to me from Nafi from Abdullah ibn Umar that A'isha umm al-muminin wanted to buy a slave-girl and set her free. Her people said, "We will sell her to you provided that her wala' is ours." She mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and he said, "Don't let that hinder you, for the wala' only belongs to the one who sets free."
وَحَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، أَرَادَتْ أَنْ تَشْتَرِيَ جَارِيَةً تُعْتِقُهَا فَقَالَ أَهْلُهَا نَبِيعُكِهَا عَلَى أَنَّ وَلاَءَهَا لَنَا فَذَكَرَتْ ذَلِكَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ
" لاَ يَمْنَعَنَّكِ ذَلِكَ فَإِنَّمَا الْوَلاَءُ لِمَنْ أَعْتَقَ " .

Malik related to me from Abdullah ibn Dinar from Abdullah ibn Umar that a man called the Messenger of Allah and said, "Messenger of Allah, what do you think about lizards?" The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "I do not eat them, and I do not forbid them."
وَحَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ دِينَارٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ رَجُلاً، نَادَى رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا تَرَى فِي الضَّبِّ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم
" لَسْتُ بِآكِلِهِ وَلاَ بِمُحَرِّمِهِ " .

Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafi from Abdullah ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said from the mimbar when mentioning sadaqa and refraining from asking, "The upper hand is better than the lower hand. The upper hand is the one which expends, and the lower one is the one which asks."
وَحَدَّثَنِي عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ - وَهُوَ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ وَهُوَ يَذْكُرُ الصَّدَقَةَ وَالتَّعَفُّفَ عَنِ الْمَسْأَلَةِ -
" الْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا خَيْرٌ مِنَ الْيَدِ السُّفْلَى وَالْيَدُ الْعُلْيَا هِيَ الْمُنْفِقَةُ وَالسُّفْلَى هِيَ السَّائِلَةُ " .

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar:
The Prophet said, "On the Day when all mankind will stand before the Lord of the Worlds, some of them will be enveloped in their sweat up to the middle of their ears."
حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ، حَدَّثَنَا مَعْنٌ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي مَالِكٌ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ " {يَوْمَ يَقُومُ النَّاسُ لِرَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ} حَتَّى يَغِيبَ أَحَدُهُمْ فِي رَشْحِهِ إِلَى أَنْصَافِ أُذُنَيْهِ ".

Allah's Apostle said, "The example of the person who knows the Qur'an by heart is like the owner of tied camels. If he keeps them tied, he will control them, but if he releases them, they will run away."

Allah's Apostle forbade Ash-Shighar, which means that somebody marries his daughter to somebody else, and the latter marries his daughter to the former without paying Mahr.

Whenever Ibn `Umar was asked about marrying a Christian lady or a Jewess, he would say: "Allah has made it unlawful for the believers to marry ladies who ascribe partners in worship to Allah, and I do not know of a greater thing, as regards to ascribing partners in worship, etc. to Allah, than that a lady should say that Jesus is her Lord although he is just one of Allah's slaves."

While we were at Adharbijan, `Umar wrote to us: 'Allah's Apostle forbade wearing silk except this much. Then the Prophet approximated his two fingers (index and middle fingers) (to illustrate that) to us.' Zuhair (the sub-narrator) raised up his middle and index fingers.

The Prophet cursed effeminate men (those men who are in the similitude (assume the manners of women) and those women who assume the manners of men, and he said, "Turn them out of your houses ." The Prophet turned out such-and-such man, and `Umar turned out such-and-such woman.
