A Jewess presented a poisoned sheep to the Prophet (saws), but the Prophet (saws) did not interfere with he.

Abu Dawud said: The Jewess who poisoned the Prophet (saws) was sister of Marhab.

Zaid was imam (in a prayer) and he did not make prostration.

I always concealed it, but I found that it became known widely, that is, the tradition on Ibn Busr about fasting on Saturday.

Abu Dawud said: Malik said: This is a false (tradition).

The Prophet (saws) said: Do not uncover you thigh, and do not look at the thigh of the living and the dead.

Abu Dawud said: This tradition disagrees with the generally reported traditions (nakarah).

If a man who is not married is seized committing sodomy, he will be stoned to death.

Abu Dawud said: The tradition of 'Asim proved the tradition of 'Amir b. Abi 'Amr as weak.

When the Messenger of Allah (saws) saw the new moon, he turned away his face from it.

Abu Dawud said: On this subject there is no tradition which has perfect chain and is sound.

Wabisa b. Ma'bad said that God’s Messenger saw a man praying alone behind the row and ordered him to repeat the prayer. Ahmad Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud transmitted it, and Tirmidhi said this is a hasan tradition.

Mujashi', who belonged to the B. Sulaim, said that God’s Messenger used to say, "A lamb may be given as full payment for that for which a kid is full payment.” Abu Dawud, Nasa’i and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

Ibn 'Abbas said God’s Messenger went out (i.e. to pray for rain) wearing old clothes, with a humble and lowly manner, making petition. Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, Nasa’i and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

‘Attab b. Usaid reported the Prophet as saying regarding the zakat on vines, “They are to be estimated as palm-trees are, then the zakat is to be paid in raisins as the zakat on palm-trees is paid in dried dates.” Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud transmitted it.

'A’isha said the Prophet used to send 'Abdallah b. Rawaha to Jews, and he would make an estimate of the palm trees when the fruit was in good condition before any of it was eaten. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Abu Sa'id al-Khudri reported God’s messenger as saying, “It is better for a man to give a dirham as sadaqa during his lifetime than to give a hundred at the time of his death.” Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Ibn ‘Umar reported God’s messenger as saying, “He who wears grand clothes in this world will be made by God to wear humble clothes on the day of resurrection.” Ahmad, Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

‘A'isha said that when she parted God’s messenger’s hair she made a parting from the crown of his head and let his forelock hang between his eyes. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Karima daughter of Hammam told that a woman asked ‘A’isha about dyeing with henna and she replied, “There is no harm, but I do not like it. My beloved disliked its odour." Abu Dawud and Nasa’i transmitted it.

Jabir said the Prophet forbade eating cats or what is paid for them. 1 1. This might be either what was paid in kind, or what was bought with money paid for them. Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi transmitted it.

Abu Ayyub told that when God’s messenger ate or drank he said, “Praise be to God who has given food and drink, made it easy to swallow, and provided an exit for it.” Abu Dawud transmitted it.

‘A’isha reported God’s messenger as saying, “Do not cut meat with a knife, for it is a foreign practice, but bite it, for that is more beneficial and wholesome.” Abu Dawud and Baihaqi, in Shu'ab al-iman, transmitted it, both saying it is not strong.

Anas reported God’s Messenger as saying, "Keep to travelling by night, for the earth is traversed [more easily]* by night.” *Literally ‘the earth is folded up.' The idea is that at night the journey seems shorter. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

When we encamped we did not glorify God* till we had loosened the saddles. * This is explained as meaning to perform the salat. Cf. Mirqat, iv, 218. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Abu Usaid reported God’s Messenger as saying at the battle of Badr, “When they come near you shoot at them, but do not draw your swords till they are close upon you.” Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Ibn ‘Umar told that he saw the first thing God’s Messenger did immediately anything came to him was to give something to those who had been set free. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

‘A’isha said the Prophet was brought a pouch containing beads and divided it among freewomen and slave women. She said her father used to divide things between freemen and slaves. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

'Auf b. Malik reported God's messenger as saying, "God will not cause two swords to smite this people together, one from among itself and one from its enemy." Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Ma'qil bin Yasar (RAA) narrated that the messenger of Allah (P.B.U.H.) said, “Recite Yasin (Surah no. 36), over those who are dying.” Related by Abu Dawud, An-Nasa'i and Ibn Hibban graded it as Sahih

'Abdullah bin 'Umar narrated that The Messenger of Allah (P.B.U.H.) said, “He who is killed while defending his property is considered a martyr.” Related by Abu Dawud An-Nasa’i and At-Tirmidhi who graded it as Sahih.

Samurah bin Jundub (RAA) narrated that The Messenger of Allah (P.B.U.H.) used to command us to pay Zakah from (the goods) we had prepared for sale. Related by Abu Dawud with a weak chain of narrators.

'Ali (RAA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Inflict the prescribed punishment to those whom you possess (i.e. your slaves)." Related by Abu Dawud. And it is related by Muslim (but only traced to the Companion).

'Aishah (RAA) narrated that Allah's Messenger (PBUH) said, "Forgive the people with high moral values when they slip but not what calls for the infliction of Hudud." Related by Ahmad, Abu Dawud, An-Nasa'i and Al-Baihaqi.

Abu Dawud, at-Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah reported the aforesaid Hadith from the narration of 'Aishah (RA), which al-Hakim graded as Sahih (authentic), but the Hadith scholars disagreed with him, and they agreed that it is Da'if (weak).

The Prophet (SAW) appointed Ibn Umm Maktum (RA) to lead the people in prayer in his absence and he [Ibn Umm Maktum (RA)] was blind. [Reported by Ahmad and Abu Dawud].

Abu Dharr reported God’s messenger as saying, “He who separates himself a handbreadth from the community has cast off the rope of Islam from his neck.” Ahmad and Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Abu Sa'id reported God’s messenger as saying, "Two people should not go together to relieve themselves and uncover their private parts and talk, for God is angry with that.” Ahmad, Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

Al-Mustaurid b. Shaddad said that he saw God’s messenger rubbing his toes with his little finger when he performed ablution. Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

Abul Malih b. Usama quoted his father as saying that the Prophet prohibited the use of the skins of beasts of prey. Ahmad, Abu Dawud and Nasa’i transmitted it; and Tirmidhi and Darimi added that they may be used as rugs.

Samura b. Jundub reported God’s messenger as saying, “If anyone performs ablution on Friday, well and good; but if anyone bathes, bathing is more excellent.” Ahmad, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Nasa’i and Darimi transmitted it.

Abu Huraira reported God’s messenger as saying, “The religion will continue to prevail as long as people hasten to break the fast, because the Jews and the Christians delay doing so.” Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

Ibn ‘Abbas said God’s messenger commanded that those killed at Uhud should be stripped of iron and skins and buried in their clothing without having the blood washed off. Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

Abu Sa'id al-Khudri reported God’s Messenger as saying, “If anyone pays in advance for an article he may not transfer, it to someone else before he receives it.” Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

Abu Huraira reported the Prophet as saying that no recompense may be demanded if a foot is trodden on*, and that the same applies in the case of fire. Abu Dawud transmitted it. * Or it may mean that no recompense may be demanded if one is kicked by an animal.

Asmar b. Mudarris told that when he came and swore allegiance to the Prophet he said, “If anyone comes to water, no Muslim having come to it before him, it belongs to him.” Abu Dawud transmitted it.

‘Abdallah b. ‘Amr reported God's Messenger as saying, “People of two different religions may not inherit from one another.” Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah transmitted it, and Tirmidhi transmitted it from Jabir.

Buraida reported God's Messenger as saying to ‘Ali, “Do not give a second look, ‘Ali, for while you are not to blame for the first you have no right to the second.” Ahmad, Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud and Darimi transmitted it.

Ibn ‘Abbas told that a virgin came to God’s Messenger and mentioned that her father had married her against her will, so the Prophet allowed her to exercise her choice. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Al-Hasan, on Samura’s authority, reported God's Messenger as saying, “If anyone gets possession of a relative who is within the prohibited degrees, that person becomes free.” Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

Ibn ‘Umar reported God’s Messenger as saying, “If anyone emancipates a slave who owns property he gets the slave’s property, unless the master stipulates otherwise.” Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

He said, on his father’s authority, that his grandfather reported the Prophet as saying, “Blood wit for what resembles intentional murder is to be made as severe as that for intentional murder, but the Culprit is not to be killed.” Abu Dawud transmitted it.

that of a parent, that of a traveller, and that of one who has been wronged.” Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

Abu Bakr as-Siddiq reported God's messenger as saying, “He who asks pardon is not a confirmed sinner, even if he returns to his sin seventy times a day.” Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud transmitted it.

The Prophet (PBUH) said, "Keep only a believer for a companion and let only a pious eat your food".

[At-Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud].

The Prophet (PBUH) said, "(Prophet) Dawud (PBUH) ate only out of that which he earned through his manual work."

[Al-Bukhari].

When the people of Yemen came, the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "The people of Yemen have visited you. They are the first to introduce the tradition of handshaking."

[Abu Dawud].

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Two Muslims will not meet and shake hands without having their sins forgiven (by Allah ) before they depart."

[Abu Dawud].

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Any matter of importance which is not begun with Al-hamdu lillah (praise be to Allah) remains defective."

[Abu Dawud].

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) liked comprehensive supplications or (Al-Jawami' - i.e., supplications with very few words but comprehensive in meanings), and discarded others.

[Abu Dawud].

The Prophet (PBUH) said, "May Allah have mercy on a man who performs four Rak'ah before the 'Asr prayer."

[Abu Dawud and At- Tirmidhi].

"The Messenger of Allah said: 'Umra is permissible for the one to whom it is given, and Ruqba is permissible for the one to whom it is given.'"

" The moon was split up into two parts during the life of Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him)."

The Prophet (saws) said: (The standard) weight is the weight of the people of Mecca, and the (standard) measure is the measure of the people of Medina.

Abu Dawud said: Al-Firyabi and Abu Ahmad have also transmitted from Sufyan in a similar way, and he (Ibn Dukain) agreed with them on the text. The version of Abu Ahmad has: "from Ibn 'Abbas" instead of Ibn 'Umar. It has also been transmitted by al-Walid b. Muslim from Hanzalah. This version has: "the weight of Medina and the measure of Mecca."

Abu Dawud said: There is a variation in the text of the version of this tradition narrated by Malik b. Dinar from 'Ata' from the Prophet (saws).

'Umar asked about the decision of the Prophet (saws) about that (i.e. abortion). Haml b. Malik b. al-Nabhigah got up and said: I was between two women. One of them struck another with a rolling-pin killing both her and what was in her womb. So the Messenger of Allah (saws) gave judgement that the bloodwit for the unborn child should be a male or a female slave of the best quality and the she should be killed.

Abu Dawud said: Al-Nadr b. Shumail said: Mistah means a rolling-pin.

Abu Dawud said: Abu 'Ubaid said: Mistah means a pole from the tent-poles.

The Prophet (saws) said: If someone is given something, he should give a return for it provided he can afford; if he cannot afford, he should praise him. He who praises him for it, thanks him, and he who conceals it is ungrateful to him.

Abu Dawud said: It has been transmitted by Yahya b. Ayyub, from `Umarah b. Ghaziyyah, from Sharahbil on the authority of Jabir.

Abu Dawud said: In the chain of this tradition `Umarah b. Ghaziyyah said: A man from my tribe said. The man referred by him is Sharahbil. It is likely that they disliked him and, therefore, they did not name him.

The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) was asked about bit’. He replied: Every liquor which intoxicates is forbidden.

Abu Dawud said: I read out this tradition to Yazid bin 'Abd Rabbihi al-Jurjisi. Muhammad bin Hard told you this tradition from al-Zabidi from al-Zuhri through his chain of narrators. This version added: Bit' is the nabidh from honey, which the people of the Yemen would drink.

Abu Dawud said: I heard Ahmad bin Hanbal say: There is no god but Allah. there was none stronger in memory and like al-Jurjisi among the people of Hims.

Dawud b. Salih b. Dinar quoted his mother as saying that her mistress sent her to ‘A'isha with some hari a. [A dish of cooked meat and wheat.] She said that she found her praying and that she signed to her to lay it down. A cat came and ate some of it, but when ‘A'isha finished praying she ate from the place where the cat had eaten, stating that God’s messenger had said, “It is not unclean; it is one of those who go round among you adding that she had seen God’s messenger using water it had left to perform his ablution. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Whoever says (upon leaving his house): 'Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah [I begin with the Name of Allah; I trust in Allah; there is no altering of conditions but by the Power of Allah],' it will be said to him: 'You are guided, defended and protected.' The devil will go far away from him".

[Abu Dawud, At-Tirmidhi and An- Nasa'i. At-Tirmidhi classified it as Hadith Hasan].

Abu Dawud reported it with this addition: "One devil will say to another: 'How can you deal with a man who has been guided, defended and protected?".

"An omen is in a dwelling, a woman or a horse."

Abu Dawud said: This tradition was read out to al-Harith b. Miskin and I was witness. It was said to him that Ibn Qasim told him that Malik was asked about evil omen in a horse and in a house. He replied: There are many houses in which people lived and perished and again others lived therein and they also perished. This is its explanation so far as we know. Allah knows best.

Abu Dawud said: 'Umar (ra) said: A mat in a house better than a woman who does not give birth to a child.

Umar bin Al Khattab heard the Apostle of Allaah(saws) say Someone came to me at night from Allaah the Exalted. The narrator said When he was staying at ‘Aqiq said Pray in his blessed valley. Then he said ‘Umrah has been included in Hajj.

Abu Dawud said Al Walid bin Musilm and ‘Umar bin Abd Al Wahid narrated in this version from Al Auza’I the words “And say An ‘Umrah included in Hajj”.

Abu Dawud said Ali bin Al Mubarak has also narrated similarly from Yahya bin said Abi Kathir in this version “And say An ‘Umrah included in Hajj”.

The Messenger of Allah (saws) used to say at the end of his witr: "O Allah, I seek refuge in Thy good pleasure from Thy anger, and in Thy forgiveness from Thy punishment, and I seek refuge in Thy mercy from Thy wrath. I cannot reckon the praise due to Thee. Thou art as Thou hast praised Thyself."

Abu Dawud said: Hisham is the earliest teacher of Hammad. Yahya b. Ma'in said: No one is reported to have narrated traditions form him except Hammad b. Salamah.

Abu Dawud said: Ubayy b. Ka'b said: The Messenger of Allah (saws) recited supplication in the witr before bowing.

Abu Dawud said: This tradition has also been narrated by 'Isa b. Yunus through a different chain of narrators from Ubayy b. Ka'b. He also narrated it through a different chain of narrators on the authority of Ubayy b. Ka'b that the Messenger of Allah (saw) recited the supplication in the witr before bowing.

Abu Dawud said: The chain of narrators of the tradition of Sa'id from Qatadah goes: Yazid b. Zurai' narrated from Sa'id, from Qatadah, from 'Azrah, from Sa'id b. 'Abd al-Rahman b. Abza, on the authority of his father, from the Prophet (saws). This version does not mention the supplication and the name of Ubayy. This tradition has also been narrated by 'Abd al-A'la and Muhammad b. Bishr al-'Abdi. He heard the traditions from 'Isa b. Yunus at Kufah. They did not mention the supplication in their version.

This tradition has also been narrated by Hisham al-Dastuwa'i and Shu'bah from Qatadah. They did not mention the supplication in their version. The tradition of Zubaid has been narrated by Sulaiman al-A'mash, Shu'bah, 'Abd al-Malik b. Abi Sulaiman, and Jarir b. Hazim; all of them narrated on the authority of Zubaid. None of them mention the supplication in his version, except in the tradition transmitted by Hafs b. Ghiyath from Mis'ar from Zubaid; he narrated in his version that he (the Prophet) recited supplication before bowing.

Abu Dawud said: This version of tradition is not well know. There is doubt that Hafs might have narrated this tradition from some other narrator than Mis'ar.

Abu Dawud said: It is reported that Ubayy (b. Ka'b) used to recited the supplication )in the witr) in the second half of Ramadan.

The Messenger of Allah (saws) forbade to eat (the meat of animals) slaughtered by the bedouins for vainglory and pride.

Abu Dawud said: The narrator Ghundar narrated this tradition as a saying of Ibn 'Abbas (and not of the Prophet).

The Messenger of Allah (saws) said: Two sheep which resemble each other are to be sacrificed for a boy and one for a girl.

Abu Dawud said: This is a sound tradition, and the tradition narrated by Sufyan is misunderstanding.

Jabir reported God’s messenger as saying, “The flesh of game is lawful for you when you are wearing the ihram, as long as you do not hunt it or have it hunted on your behalf.” Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi and Nasa’i transmitted it.

Mu'adh b, Jabal reported God’s Messenger as saying, “Observe this prayer when it is dark, for by it you have been made superior to all the peoples, no people having observed it before you”. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Ibn ‘Abbas reported God’s Messenger as saying, “If anyone makes the call to prayer for seven years seeking to please God, freedom from hell will be recorded for him.” Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

Ibn ‘Abbas said that when the Prophet recited, “Glorify the name of thy most high Lord,” (Al-Quran; 87) he said, “Glory be to my Lord most high.” Ahmad and Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Ibn ‘Abbas reported that the Prophet used to say between the two sajdas, “O God, forgive me, show mercy to me, guide me, heal me, and provide for me.” Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi transmitted it.

Abu' Musa reported God’s Messenger as saying, “Every eye is adulterous, and when a woman perfumes herself and passes a company, she is such and such meaning adulterous. Tirmidhi transmitted it, and Abu Dawud and Nasa’i have something similar.

Zaid b. Thabit reported God s Messenger as saying, “A man’s prayer in his house is more excellent than his prayer in this mosque of mine, except for the prescribed prayer." Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi transmitted it.

Salman said the Prophet was asked about locusts and replied, "They are the most numerous of God’s hosts. I neither eat them nor declare them unlawful." Abu Dawud transmitted it, but Muhyi as-Sunna said it is weak.

‘A’isha reported God’s messenger as saying, “When one of you eats and forgets to mention God over his food he should say, ‘In the name of God at the beginning and at the end of it’.” Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Abu Huraira told that a man said, “Messenger of God, a man wishes to take part in jihad in God’s path desiring some worldly advantage." The Prophet replied, “He will have no reward." Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Jabir told that God’s Messenger used to keep to the rear when traveling and urge on the weak. He would take someone up behind him and would make supplication for them all. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Ibn Mas'ud told that when God’s Messenger intended to kill ‘Uqba b. Abu Mu'ait he asked who would look after the children, and he replied that hell would. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Al-Miswar and Marwan said they agreed to abandon war for ten years during which the people would have security, on the basis that there should be sincerity between them and that there should be no theft or treachery. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

`Abdallah b. `Amr reported the Prophet as saying, "Leave the Abyssinians alone as long as they leave you alone, for it is only the Abyssinian with short legs who will seek to take out the treasure of the Ka'ba." Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Abu ad-Darda’ (RAA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (P.B.U.H.) said, “The heaviest thing which will be put on the believer’s scale (on the Day of Resurrection) will be good morals.” Related by Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi who graded it as Sahih.

Ibn ’Umar (RAA) narrated, ‘ Messenger of Allah (P.B.U.H.) held a horse race and made the destination from the fully grown ones at a longer distance Related by Ahmad and Abu Dawud. Ibn Hibban graded it as Sahih.

Abu Dawud transmitted on the authority of Ka’b bin Murrah (RAA), “The Messenger of Allah (P.B.U.H.) said, “Any Muslim woman, who emancipates another Muslim woman, she will be her release from Hell Fire.”

Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufian (RAA) narrated, ’The Messenger of Allah (P.B.U.H.) said regarding the night of al-Qadr, "It is the 27th night (of Ramadan).’’ Related by Abu Dawud. But it is most probably the saying of Mu’awiyah and not the Prophet (P.B.U.H.).

Allah's Messenger (SAW) ruled that the two opposing parties in a dispute should sit in front of the judge. [Reported by Abu Dawud. al-Hakim graded it Sahih (authentic)].

"A guardian has no authority over a woman who has been previously married,; and an orphan girl must be consulted." [Reported by Abu Dawud and an-Nasa'i; Ibn Hibban graded it Sahih (authentic)].

Allah's Messenger (SAW) said, "If anyone puts a wall around a (barren) land, it belongs to him." [Reported by Abu Dawud and Ibn al-Jarud graded it Sahih (authentic)].

Allah's Messenger (SAW) said, "If one of you steps on filth with his two leather socks then the earth is their purification." [Reported by Abu Dawud, and Ibn Hibban graded it Sahih (authentic)].

Allah's Messenger (SAW) said, "Neither the prescribed punishment nor retaliations should be executed inside the mosque." [Reported by Ahmad and Abu Dawud through a weak Sanad (chain)].

"He [the Prophet (SAW)] prayed (the Eclipse prayer) and bowed five times and prostrated twice (in the first Rak'ah), and in the second Rak'a he also did the same." [Abu Dawud]

She brought out the mantle (over-garment) of Allah's Messenger (SAW)) with it's collar, sleeves, front and back hemmed with brocade (silk). [Abu Dawud reported it].

Subḥāna dhil-jabarūti, walmalakūti, walkibriyā'i, wal`aẓamati. Glory is to You, Master of power, of dominion, of majesty and greatness. Reference: Abu Dawud 1/230, An-Nasa'i and Ahmad. Its chain of narration is good (Hasan).

a precise verse, or an established sunna, or a firm obligatory duty. Anything else is an extra.” Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

‘Ali b. Talq reported God’s messenger as saying, “When any of you breaks wind he should perform ablution, and you must not have intercourse with women by their buttocks.” Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Abu Huraira reported God’s messenger as saying, "When any of you treads with his sandal on something unclean, earth should be used to purify it." Abu Dawud transmitted it and Ibn Majah has something similar.

‘Ammar b. Yasir said, "He who fasts on a day about which he is doubtful has disobeyed Abul Qasim"* *i.e., the Prophet. Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Nasa’i, Ibn Majah and Darimi transmitted it.

Ibn ‘Umar said that the people tried to see the new moon and he informed God’s messenger that he had seen it, so he fasted and commanded the people to observe the fast." Abu Dawud and Darimi transmitted it.
