(from his father) Abu Qatada went out (on a journey) with Allah's Apostle but he was left behind with some of his companions who were in the state of Ihram. He himself was not in the state of Ihram. They saw an opener before he could see it. When they saw the opener, they did not speak anything till Abu Qatada saw it. So, he rode over his horse called Al-Jarada and requested them to give him his lash, but they refused. So, he himself took it and then attacked the opener and slaughtered it. He ate of its meat and his companions ate, too, but they regretted their eating. When they met the Prophet (they asked him about it) and he asked, "Have you some of its meat (left) with you?" Abu Qatada replied, "Yes, we have its leg with us." So, the Prophet took and ate it.

Allah's Apostle came to Mecca through its higher region on the day of the Conquest (of Mecca) riding his she-camel on which Usama was riding behind him. Bilal and `Uthman bin Talha, one of the servants of the Ka`ba, were also accompanying him till he made his camel kneel in the mosque and ordered the latter to bring the key of the Ka`ba. He opened the door of the Ka`ba and Allah's Apostle entered in the company of Usama, Bilal and `Uthman, and stayed in it for a long period. When he came out, the people rushed to it, and `Abdullah bin `Umar was the first to enter it and found Bilal standing behind the door. He asked Bilal, "Where did the Prophet offer his prayer?" He pointed to the place where he had offered his prayer. `Abdullah said, "I forgot to ask him how many rak`at he had performed."

the daughter of Abu Talib: I went to Allah's Apostle on the day of the conquest of Mecca and found him taking a bath, and his daughter Fatima was screening him. I greeted him and he asked, "Who is that?" I said, "I, Um Hani bint Abi Talib." He said, "Welcome, O Um Hani." When he had finished his bath, he stood up and offered eight rak`at while dressed in one garment. I said, "O Allah's Apostle! My brother `Ali has declared that he will kill a man to whom I have granted asylum. The man is so and-so bin Hubaira." Allah's Apostle said, "O Um Hani! We will grant asylum to the one whom you have granted asylum." (Um Hani said, "That (visit) took place in the Duha (i.e. forenoon)).

The delegates of `Abd-ul-Qais came to Allah's Apostle and said, "O Allah's Apostle! We are from the tribe of Rabi`a and the infidels of Mudar tribe stand between us and you, so that we cannot come to you except in the Sacred Months. Therefore we would like you to give us some instructions which we may follow and convey to our people staying behind us." The Prophet said, "I order you to observe four things and forbid you (to do) four things: (I order you) to believe in Allah testifying that None has the right to be worshipped except Allah; to offer the prayer perfectly; to pay the Zakat; and to give one-fifth of the war booty to Allah. And I forbid you to use Ad-Dubba, Al-Hantam, An-Naqir and Al- Muzaffat." (These are names of utensils in which alcoholic drinks were served.)

We witnessed (the battle of) Khaibar. Allah's Apostle said about one of those who were with him and who claimed to be a Muslim. "This (man) is from the dwellers of the Hell-Fire." When the battle started, that fellow fought so violently and bravely that he received plenty of wounds. Some of the people were about to doubt (the Prophet's statement), but the man, feeling the pain of his wounds, put his hand into his quiver and took out of it, some arrows with which he slaughtered himself (i.e. committed suicide). Then some men amongst the Muslims came hurriedly and said, "O Allah's Apostle! Allah has made your statement true so-and-so has committed suicide. "The Prophet said, "O so-and-so! Get up and make an announcement that none but a believer will enter Paradise and that Allah may support the religion with an unchaste (evil) wicked man.

The Prophet sent Khalid bin Al-Walid to the tribe of Jadhima and Khalid invited them to Islam but they could not express themselves by saying, "Aslamna (i.e. we have embraced Islam)," but they started saying "Saba'na! Saba'na (i.e. we have come out of one religion to another)." Khalid kept on killing (some of) them and taking (some of) them as captives and gave every one of us his Captive. When there came the day then Khalid ordered that each man (i.e. Muslim soldier) should kill his captive, I said, "By Allah, I will not kill my captive, and none of my companions will kill his captive." When we reached the Prophet, we mentioned to him the whole story. On that, the Prophet raised both his hands and said twice, "O Allah! I am free from what Khalid has done."

The Prophet (saws) said: If anyone oversleeps and misses the witr, or forgets it, he should pray when he remembers.

The Prophet (saws) said: If any one of you greets me, Allah returns my soul to me and I respond to the greeting.

The Prophet (saws) said: Anyone who incites a woman against her husband or a slave against his master is not one of us.

The apostle of Allah (saws) used to fast three days every month: Monday, Thursday and Monday in the next week.

The Prophet (saws) said: Use your property, your persons any your tongues in striving against the polytheists.

The Prophet (saws) said: If anyone kills a man whom he grants protection prematurely, Allah will forbid him to enter Paradise.

The Prophet (saws) said: The best time for a man to go in to his family on return from a journey is at the beginning of the night.

The Prophet (saws) said: people of two different religions would not inherit from one another.

The Prophet (saws) said: If anyone brings barren land into cultivation, it belongs to him, and the unjust vein has no right.

I saw that the Prophet (saws) put a date on a loaf and said: This is a thing eaten with bread (condiments).

The Prophet (saws) forbade the sale of grapes till they became black and the sale of grain till it had become hard.

The Prophet (saws) said: The earnings of a cupper are impure, the price paid for a dog is impure, and the hire paid to a prostitute is impure.

The Prophet (saws) said: If anyone pays in advance he must not transfer it to someone else before he receives it.

The Prophet (saws) said: When land has been divided and boundaries have been set up, there is no right of pre-emption in it.

The Prophet (saws) said: If anyone interprets the Book of Allah in the light of his opinion even if he is right, he has erred.

I saw that the Prophet (saws) took a piece of bread of barley and put a date on it and said: This is the condiment of this.

When a physician consulted the Prophet (saws) about putting frogs in medicine, he forbade him to kill them.

The Prophet (saws) ordered that the skins of the animals which had died a natural death should be used when they are tanned.

On his father's authority, said that his grandfather said: The Prophet (saws) said: For each tooth are ten camels.

The Prophet (saws) said: If someone is donated something, and he mentions it, he thanks for it, and if he conceals it, he is ungrateful for it.

The Prophet (saws) said: Associate only with a believer, and let only a God-fearing man eat your meals.

The Prophet (saws) said: The most prevalent kind of usury is going to lengths in talking unjustly against a Muslim's honour.

The Prophet (saws) said: When a ruler seeks to make imputations against the people, he corrupts them.

The Prophet (saws) said: Avoid envy, for envy devours good deeds just as fire devours fuel or (he said) "grass."

The Prophet (saws) received Ja'far ibn AbuTalib, embraced him and kissed him between both of his eyes (forehead).
