‘Abd ar-Rahman b. Shibl said the Prophet forbade eating the flesh of lizards. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

He reported God’s messenger as saying, "Do not revile a cock, for it wakens people for prayer." Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Ibn ‘Abbas said God’s messenger forbade breathing or blowing into a vessel. Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

Ibn ‘Abbas reported God's Messenger as saying, “The most favored horses are the sorrel.” Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Qais b. ‘Ubad said that God’s Messenger’s companions disliked shouting while fighting. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Jabir[*] said God's messenger spoke in a distinct and leisurely manner. *Jabir b. Abdallah. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

And Abu Dawud has "Then read the Ummul-Qur'an (i.e. Surah al-Fatiha) and what ever Allah wishes".

Abu Huraira reported God’s messenger as saying, “Disputation about the Qur’an is infidelity.” Ahmad and Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Buraida said that the Prophet appointed a sixth to a grandmother if no mother is left to inherit before her. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Jarhad reported the Prophet as saying, "Do you not know that the thigh is a private part?” Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud transmitted it.

There is no prescribed punishment for one who has sexual intercourse with an animal.

Abu Dawud said: 'Ata is also so. Al Hakam said: I think he should be flogged, but the number should not reach the one of the prescribed punishment. Al-Hasan said: He is like a fornicator.

Abu Dawud said: THe tradition of 'Asim proves the tradition of 'Amr b. Abi 'Amr as weak.

A woman threw a stone at another woman and she aborted. The dispute was brought to the Messenger of Allah (saws). He gave judgment that five hundred sheep should be paid for her (unborn) child, and forbade throwing stones.

Abu Dawud said: The version of this tradition goes in this way, i.e. five hundred sheep. What is correct is one hundred sheep. Abu Dawud said: 'Abbas transmitted this tradition this way, but it is misunderstanding.

Mu'adh b. Jabal said that God’s Messenger took him by the hand and said, “I love you, Mu'adh,” to which he replied, “And I love you, Messenger of God.” He then told him not to omit to say at the end of every prayer, “My Lord, help me to remember Thee, thank Thee, and worship Thee acceptably.” Ahmad, Abu Dawud and Nasa’i transmitted it, but Abu Dawud did not mention that Mu‘adh said, “And I love you.”

Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Teach a boy Salat (the prayer) when he attains the age of seven years, and punish him (if he does not offer it) at ten".

[Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi, who categorized it as Hadith Hasan].

The narration in Abu Dawud is: Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Order a boy to perform Salat (the prayer) when he is seven years old".

The Messenger of Allah (saws) used to prolong the recitation of the Qur'an in the two rak'ahs after the sunset prayer until the people praying in the mosque dispersed.

Abu Dawud said: This has been reported by Nasr al-Mujaddir from Ya'qub al-Qummi with the same chain of narrators.

Abu Dawud said: Muhammad b. 'Isa b. al-tabba' transmitted from Nasr al-Mujaddir from Ya'qub in like manner.

Abu Dawud said “I heard Muhammad bin Isa narrating this tradition who said Mu’tamar narrated it to us. And he (Mu’tamar) said “ I heard Al Hakam bin Aban narrating this tradition. He did not mention the name of Ibn ‘Abbas.

Abu Dawud said “Al Hussain bin Huraith wrote to me saying “Al Fadl bin Musa narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas to the same effect from the Prophet(saws).

‘Ali said “If I survive for the Christians of Banu Taghlib I shall kill fighters and captivate children for I had written a document between them and the Prophet(saws) to the effect that they would not make their children Christian.

Abu Dawud said “This is rejected (munkar) tradition and it has reached me from Ahmad (bin Hanbal) that he used to reject this tradition seriously.

Abu ‘Ali said “Abu Dawud did not present this (tradition) in this second reading.”

Anas reported God’s Messenger as saying, “A supplication made between the adhan and the iqama is not rejected.” Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi transmitted it.

He also reported God’s Messenger as saying, “If anyone comes to a mosque for a purpose, he will attain it.” Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Abu Huraira reported God’s Messenger as saying, “Have the imam in the centre and close up the gaps.’’ Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Abu Huraira said that the Prophet’s recitation at night was partly in a loud voice and partly in a low voice. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Al-Bara’ said that the Prophet was handed a bow on the day of the breaking of the fast and delivered the sermon leaning on it. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Mu'awjya reported God’s messenger as saying, “Do not ride on silk stuff or panther skins.” Abu Dawud and Nasa’i transmitted it.

Abu Huraira reported God’s messenger as saying, “He who has hair should honour it.” Abu Dawud trrnsmitted it.

Ibn ‘Abbas told that God's messenger forbade inciting animals to fight with one another. Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud transmitted it.

He told that God’s messenger forbade drinking from a broken place in a cup and blowing into a drink. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Abu Huraira told that God’s messenger prohibited unclean medicine. Ahmad, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

Jabir said that when the Prophet entered Mecca his banner was white. Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

Samura b. Jundub said that the war-cry of the Emigrants was ‘Abdallah and that of the Helpers ‘Abd ar-Rahman. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

`Abdallah b. `Amr reported the Prophet as saying, "The trumpet is a horn which will be blown." Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud and Darimi transmitted it.

"If anyone makes to transactions combined in one he is entitled to take the lower price, or (it is considered) usury."

The Prophet (SAW) offered the 'Eid prayer without an Adhan or an Iqamah. [Reported by Abu Dawud].

‘A'isha said that the Prophet did not perform ablution after washing. Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, Nasa’i and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

Ibn ‘Abbas said the Prophet recited Fatihat al-Kitab at funerals. Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

Abu Huraira reported the Prophet as saying, “Two people must separate only by mutual consent.” Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Ibn ‘Umar reported the Prophet as saying, “The lawful thing which God hates most is divorce.” Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Umm Salama told that God’s Messenger forbade every intoxicant and everything which produces languidness. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Ibn Abbas said: There remained one more pronouncement of divorce for you. The Messenger of Allah (saws) took the same decision.

Abu Dawud said: I heard Ahmad b. Hanbal say: 'Abd al-Razzaq said that Ibn al-Mubarak said to Ma'mar: Who is this Abu al-Hasan ? He bore a big rock.

Abu Dawud said: Al-Zuhri has narrated (traditions) on the authority of this Abu al-Hasan. Al-Zuhri said: He was lawyer, and al-Zuhri narrated many traditions from Abu al-Hasan.

Abu Dawud said: Abu al-Hasan is well known narrator. This tradition is not practiced.

The tradition mentioned above has also been transmitted by ibn Shihab through a different chain of narrators to the same effect. This version adds “She said “he entered upon me looking pleased with the lines of his face brightened.

Abu Dawud said “Ibn ‘Uyainah did not remember the words “the lines of his face”.”

Abu Dawud said “The words “the lines of his face” have been narrated by Ibn ‘Uyainah himself. He did not hear Al Zuhri say (these words). He heard some person other than Al Zuhri say these words. The words “the lines of his face” occur in the tradition narrated by Al Laith and others.

Abu Dawud said “ I heard Ahmad bin Salih say “Usamah was very black like tar and Zaid was white like cotton.”

The Prophet (saws) said: I wish I had a white loaf made from tawny and softened with clarified butter and milk. A man from among the people got up and getting one brought it. He asked: In which had it been? He replied: In a lizard skin. He said: Take it away.

Abu Dawud said: This is a munkar (rejected) tradition.

Abu Dawud said: Ayyub, the narrator of this tradition, is not (Ayyub) al-Sakhtiyani.

The Messenger of Allah (saws) and AbuBakr gave forty lashes for drinking wine and Umar made it eighty. And all this is sunnah, the model and standard practice.

Abu Dawud said: Al-Asma'i explaning the maxim, "He who enjoys its cold should bear its heat," said: He who enjoys the easy if it should also take the responsibility of the hard of it.

Abu Dawud said: Hudain b. al-Mundhir Abu Sasan was the leader of his tribe.

A beggar passed by Aisha and she gave him a piece of bread. Another man who wore clothes and had a good appearance passed by her, and she made him sit down and he ate (with her). When she was asked about that, she replied: The Messenger of Allah (saws) said: Treat the people according to their ranks.

Abu Dawud said: The version of Yahya is short.

Abu Dawud said: Maimun did not meet 'A'ishah.

The Muslims will then make for their weapons and will fight, and Allah will honor that body with martryrdom.

Abu Dawud said: But al-Walid has narrated this tradition from Dhu Mikhbar from the Prophet (saws).

Abu Dawud said: Rawh, Yahya bin Hamzah and Bishr bin Bakr has also transmitted it from al-Awza'i as mentioned by 'Isa.

one who fights in God’s path, or one who collects it, or a debtor, a man who buys it with his money, or a man who has a poor neighbour a no has been given sadaqa and gives a present to the rich man.” Malik and Abu Dawud transmitted it. A version by Abu Dawud from Abu Sa'id has ‘‘or a traveller.”

Ibn ‘Umar reported God's messenger as saying, “I wish I had a white loaf made from tawny wheat and softened with clarified butter and milk.” A man who was present rose up and getting one brought it. He asked what it had been in, and when he was told it had been in a lizard skin, he told him to take it away. Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah transmitted it, Abu Dawud saying this is a tradition which is rejected.

Allāhumma raḥmataka arjū falā takilnī ilā nafsī ṭarfata `ayn, wa aṣliḥ lī sha'nī kullah, lā ilāha illā ant. O Allah, I hope for Your mercy. Do not leave me to myself even for the blinking of an eye (i.e. a moment). Correct all of my affairs for me. There is none worthy of worship but You. Reference: Abu Dawud 4/324, Ahmad 5/42. Al-Albani graded it as good in Sahih Abu Dawud 3/959.

Afṭara `indakumuṣ-ṣā'imūn, wa akala ṭa`āmakumu ‘l-'abrār, wa ṣallat `alaykumu ‘l-malā'ikah. With you, those who are fasting have broken their fast, you have fed those who are righteous, and the angels recite their prayers upon you. Reference: Abu Dawud 3/367, Ibn Majah 1/556, An-Nasa'i, 'Amalul-Yawm wal-Laylah 296-8. Al-Albani graded it authentic in Sahih Abu Dawud 2/730.

‘A’isha said that the Prophet used to kiss one of his wives and then pray without performing ablution. Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Nasa’i and Ibn Majah transmitted it. Tirmidhi said, “The isnad ‘Urwa from ‘A'isha is in no way sound in the opinion of our friends,* and the same applies to the isnad Ibrahim at-Taimi from her.” Abu Dawud said that this is mursal and that Ibrahim at-Taimi never heard from ‘A'isha. *This must apply to this particular tradition, as ‘Urwa is a recognised transmitter from ‘A'isha

‘Abdallah b. ‘Amr reported the Prophet as saying, “The Friday prayer is obligatory on him who hears the call.” Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Abu Huraira reported God’s messenger as saying, “The worst things in a man are anxious niggardliness and unrestrained cowardice.” Abd Dawud transmitted it.

He reported God’s messenger as saying, “He who copies any people is one of them.” Ahmad and Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Jabir told that the Prophet had himself cupped above the thigh for a contusion from which he suffered. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Umm Salama told that she heard God's messenger say, "The Mahdi will be of my family, of the descendants of Fatima." Aba Dawud transmitted it.

`A'isha said that when the Negus died, they discussed the fact that a light continued to be seen over his grave. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Abu Dawud also reported, ‘He allotted three shares for a man and his horse, two for his horse and one for him.’

The aforesaid Hadith has a supporting narration reported by Abu Dawud. an-Nasa'i and Ibn Hibban from Ma'qal bin Yasar's Hadith.

"or blow into it," [at-Tirmidhi graded it Sahih (authentic)].

He also said, “I saw the Prophet wiping over the upper part of his shoes.” Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Jabir said the Prophet owed him a debt and gave him something extra when he paid it. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

He reported the Prophet as saying, “The hand which takes is responsible till it pays.” Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

Asma' daughter of Abu Bakr said that God’s Messenger assigned some palm-trees to az-Zubair. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Abu Musa reported the Prophet as saying, “There is no marriage without a guardian.” Ahmad, Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah and Darimi transmitted it.

Anas said the Prophet held a wedding-feast for Safiya with meal and dates. Ahmad, Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

‘Umar said, “I held an administrative post in the time of God's Messenger, and he gave me payment for it." Abu Dawud transmitted it.

The Prophet (PBUH) said, "Du'a (supplication) is worship."

[Abu Dawud].

The Prophet (SAW) prostrated in Sad and said: "Dawud did this prostration in repentance and we do it in thanksgiving."

Khalid b. Haudha said he saw the Prophet addressing the people on the day of ‘Arafa standing in the stirrups on a camel. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

‘A’isha said that when the Prophet heard the mu’adhdhin uttering the testimony, he said, “I too, I too.” Abu Dawud transmitted it.

‘A’isha said that God's Messenger ordered that a mosque be built in a residential district and that it be cleaned and perfumed. Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

Abu Sa'id reported God’s Messenger as saying, “The whole earth is a mosque, with the exception of a graveyard and a bath.” Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi and Darimi transmitted it.

Anas said that the Prophet urged them to pray and forbade them to leave after prayer before he did. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Samura said, “God’s Messenger commanded us to respond to the imam, to love one another, and to salute one another.” Abu Dawud transmitted it.

‘A’isha reported God’s Messenger as saying, "God and His angels bless those who are on the right flanks of the rows." Abu Dawud transmitted it.

‘A’isha said that God’s messanger prayed in his private apartment and the people followed his lead behind the apartment. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Anas said that God’s Messenger appointed Ibn Umm Maktum as substitute to lead the people in prayer, and he was blind. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

He said that rain fell on a festival day and the Prophet led them in the festival prayer in the mosque. Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

Jabir reported the Prophet as saying, "A cow serves for seven, and a camel serves for seven.” Muslim and Abu Dawud transmitted it, the wording being the latter’s.

Mu'awiya said God’s messenger forbade riding on panther-skins and wearing gold, except in small pieces. Abu Dawud and Nasa'i transmitted it.

Khalid b. al-Walld said God’s messenger prohibited eating the flesh of horses, mules and asses. Abu Dawud and Nasa’i transmitted it.

Abu Huraira reported God’s Messenger as saying, “The angels do not go with a travelling company in which there is a panther skin.” Abu Dawud transmitted it.

‘Urwa said Usama told him that God's Messenger enjoined him to attack Ubna in the morning and burn the place. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Something similar to the aforesaid Hadith. [Abu Dawud and at-Tirmidhi reported it. Ibn Hibban graded it Sahih (authentic)].

Abu Huraira reported God’s messenger as saying, “How good is the believer’s meal of dates shortly before dawn!” Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Zaid b. Arqam said the Prophet visited him when he had a pain in his eyes. Ahmad and Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Abd Sa'id al-Khudri said that God’s messenger cursed the wailing-woman and the woman who listens to her. Abu Dawud transmitted it.

‘Umar reported the Prophet as saying, “A man will not be asked about why he beat his wife.” Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

Abu Huraira said that when God’s Messenger swore an oath it was, “No, and I ask forgiveness of God.” Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

Jabir said God’s Messenger forbade that a sword which has been drawn should be handed to anyone. Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Jarir reported the Prophet as saying, “When a slave runs away and reverts to polytheism he may lawfully be killed.” Abu Dawud transmitted it.

‘A’isha reported the Prophet as saying, “Forgive the people of good qualities their slips, but not faults to which prescribed penalties apply.” Abu Dawud transmitted it.

Abu Huraira reported God's Messenger as saying, “The testimony of a nomadic Arab against a townsman is not allowable." Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

Ibn ‘Abbas said the Prophet fixed the blood wit at twelve thousand.* Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, Nasa’i and Darimi transmitted it. *i.e. dirhams

The Prophet (PBUH) said, "Fight the polytheists with your wealth, lives and tongues."

[Abu Dawud].

Rabbanā ātinā fid-dunyā ḥasanah wa fi ‘l-ākhirati ḥasanah wa qinā `adhāban-nār. Our Lord, grant us the good things in this world, and the good things in the next life, and save us from the punishment of the Fire. Reference: Abu Dawud 2/179, Ahmad 3/411, Al-Baghawi, Sharhus-Sunnah 7/128. Al-Albani graded it good in Sahih Abu Dawud 1/354. The Ayat is from Surat Al-Baqarah, 2:201.

‘Ali reported God's messenger as saying, “The leather strap of the anus is the eyes, so one who sleeps should perform ablution. Abu Dawud transmitted it, and the shaikh and imam Muhyi as-Sunna said that this does not refer to one who is sitting because of the sound tradition from Anas who said that the Companions of God’s messenger dozed while waiting for nightfall, then prayed without performing ablution. Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi transmitted it, but Tirmidhi said “they slept” instead of saying that they “dozed while waiting for nightfall.”

When al-Husain b. ‘Ali was sitting in God’s messenger’s lap he passed water and I said, “Put on a garment and give me your lower garment to wash;" but he replied, “It is only the urine of a female which should be washed; the urine of a male should be sprinkled." Ahmad, Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah transmitted it. In a version by Abu Dawud and Nasa’i from Abus Samh he said, "It should be washed because of a girl’s urine and sprinkled because of a boy’s."

Bilal b. Yasar b. Zaid, the Prophet’s client,1 told on his father’s authority that his grandfather said he had heard God's messenger state that if anyone says, “I ask pardon of God than whom there is no god, the Living, the Eternal, and I turn to Him in repentance,” he will be pardoned, even if he has fled in time of battle. 1. The client was Zaid, Bilal’s grandfather. Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud transmitted it; but Abu Dawud has Hilal b. Yasar, and Tirmidhi calls this a gharib tradition.

The Prophet (saws) as saying: If anyone has sacrificial animal and intends to sacrifice it, and he sights the new moon of Dhul-Hajjah, he must not take any of his hair and nails until he sacrifices

Abu Dawud said: The name of 'Amr b. Muslim in the chain narrated by Malik and Muhammad b. 'Amr is disputed. Some say that it is 'Umar and the majority holds that it is 'Amr.

Abu Dawud said: He is 'Amr b. Muslim b. Ukaimah al-Laithi al-Jundu'i.

The Companions during the lifetime of the messenger of Allah (May peace be upon him) used to wait for the night prayer so much so that their heads were lowered down (by dozing). Then they offered prayer and did not perform ablution.

Abu Dawud said: Shu’bah on the authority of Qatadah added: We lowered down our heads (on accounts of dozing) in the day of the Messenger of Allah (May peace be upon him).

Abu Dawud said; This tradition has been transmitted through a different chain of narrators.
