Narrated Abu 'Is-haq:
A man asked Al-Bara' and I was listening, "Did `Ali take part in (the battle of) Badr?" Al-Bara' said, "(Yes). he even met (his enemies) in a duel and was clad in two armors (one over the other).

Yahya related to me from Malik from Zayd ibn Aslam that Ata ibn Yasar said, "A man came to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and asked him about the time of the subh prayer. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, did not answer him, but in the morning he prayed subh at first light. The following morning he prayed subh when it was much lighter, and then said, 'Where is the man who was asking about the time of the prayer?' The man replied, 'Here I am, Messenger of Allah.' He said,'The time is between these two.' "

Rijāl: (1) al-Ḍaḥḥāk ibn Makhlad, known as Abū ʿĀṣim al-Nabīl: Thiqa thabt. (Taqrīb al-Tahdhīb, 155.) (2) Abū Dāwūd al-Sabīʿī: his name is Nufayʿ ibn al-Ḥārith; matrūk, and Ibn Maʿīn declared him a liar. (Taqrīb al-Tahdhīb, 359.) (3) Abū al-Ḥamrāʾ: client and attendant of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, his name is Hilāl ibn al-Ḥārith (or Ibn Ẓafar); settled in Ḥimṣ. (Taqrīb al-Tahdhīb, 402.)
Takhrīj: In al-Muntakhab (no. 474); related at length by al-Bukhārī in al-Tārīkh al-Kabīr (9/24–26, no. 205), al-Ṭabarānī in al-Kabīr (no. 2672, 3/50–51), al-Ṭaḥāwī in Mushkil al-Āthār (1/338–339), and Ibn ʿAdī in al-Kāmil (7/2524), all via Abū Dāwūd Nufayʿ ibn al-Ḥārith — an isnād ḍaʿīf jiddan because of Nufayʿ. However, the same content is related from Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) by al-Ṭabarānī in al-Kabīr (no. 2671), al-Ṭaḥāwī in al-Mushkil, Aḥmad in his Musnad (3/259, 285), ʿAbd ibn Ḥumayd himself in al-Muntakhab (no. 1221), and Ibn ʿAdī in al-Kāmil (12/127), via Ḥammād ibn Salamah from ʿAlī ibn Zayd ibn Judʿān from Anas — marfūʿan. ʿAlī ibn Zayd is himself weak (Taqrīb, 246), but this route is corroborated: al-Ḥākim (3/158) related it via Muslim ibn ʿAffān from Ḥammād ibn Salamah, who said "akhbaranī Ḥumayd and ʿAlī ibn Zayd, from Anas," and al-Ḥākim graded it ṣaḥīḥ on the condition of Muslim, with al-Dhahabī raising no objection. Ḥumayd [al-Ṭawīl]'s well-known tadlīs from Anas is not a concern here, since Thābit al-Bunānī stands between them (Taqrīb, 84). Overall verdict: the wording as related from Abū al-Ḥamrāʾ is severely weak, but the same content from Anas ibn Mālik is ṣaḥīḥ.

Chain: al-Ṭabarānī → ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Rumāḥis al-Qaysī → Abū ʿUmar Ziyād ibn Ṭāriq → Abū Jarwal Zuhayr ibn Ṣard al-Jushamī (Companion) → direct account.
Rijāl: (1) ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Rumāḥis al-Qaysī: al-Dhahabī said in Mīzān al-Iʿtidāl (3/6): "He was very old, and I found no criticism of him from the early scholars; yet he is not to be relied upon. I then found the ḥadīth he transmits to have a defective ʿilla: Abū ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Farūkh al-Dimashqī stated that the original chain runs: ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Rumāḥis, from Ziyād ibn Ṭāriq, from his father, from Zuhayr ibn Ṣard, meaning ʿUbayd Allāh extended the chain and dropped two transmitters. He further explicitly stated that Ziyād said 'Zuhayr told me directly,' concealing the omission of two narrators, as found in al-Muʿjam al-Ṭabarānī and elsewhere." (2) Ziyād ibn Ṭāriq (Abū ʿUmar): al-Dhahabī said in Mīzān al-Iʿtidāl (2/9): "He is a nakira, unknown and unrecognized, and ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Rumāḥis is the sole transmitter from him." Abū Jarwal is the kunyā of Zuhayr ibn Ṣard al-Jushamī. (3) Zuhayr ibn Ṣard al-Jushamī: Ibn Ḥajar mentions him in al-Iṣābah (1/553) as a Companion who accepted Islam after the Battle of Ḥunayn.
Takhrīj: Narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in al-Muʿjam al-Ṣaghīr (1/236–237); al-Dhahabī cited it in Mīzān al-Iʿtidāl (3/6) through the same chain. Ibn Saʿd mentions the account in al-Ṭabaqāt al-Kubrā (2/153) without an isnād. The chain is weak with no authentic corroboration.

Rijāl: (1) Sufyān here is Ibn ʿUyaynah. He was an imām, ḥāfiẓ, jurist, and authoritative proof. Ibn Ḥajar described him as “thiqa, ḥāfiẓ, a jurist, an imām, and a ḥujjah,” while noting that his memory changed slightly near the end of his life and that he sometimes practiced tadlīs, though from reliable narrators. (Taqrīb al-Tahdhīb, no. 2451.) (2) Ziyād ibn ʿIlāqah: Thiqa. Ibn Maʿīn, al-Nasāʾī, al-ʿIjlī, and Yaʿqūb ibn Sufyān all declared him reliable. (3) Usāmah ibn Sharīk: Companion.
Takhrīj: Isḥāq ibn Rāhawayh, al-Musnad (2348); Abū Dāwūd, al-Ṭibb (3855); al-Tirmidhī, al-Ṭibb (2038), who graded the treatment portion ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ; al-Nasāʾī, al-Sunan al-Kubrā (7554); Ibn Mājah, al-Ṭibb (3436); and Aḥmad (18454). Al-Nawawī classified its isnād as ṣaḥīḥ, and Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr also authenticated the report.
Variant note: The recension of Musnad Isḥāq reads “except death” (إِلَّا الْمَوْتَ). The more widespread wording in the Sunan collections reads “except old age” (إِلَّا الْهَرَمَ), while “death” is also established as a transmitted variant. The wording “he unjustly violated his brother’s honor” translates Isḥāq’s reading, اقْتَرَضَ مِنْ عِرْضِ أَخِيهِ; other routes contain variants such as اقْتَرَفَ رَجُلًا مُسْلِمًا.

Chain: Ibn Mājah → Jubārah ibn al-Mughallis → Kathīr ibn Sulaym → Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) → the Prophet ﷺ.
Rijāl: For Jubārah ibn al-Mughallis and Kathīr ibn Sulaym, see footnote 1.
Takhrīj: Ibn Mājah, al-Aṭʿimah, chapter on hospitality (3356); Ibn Abī al-Dunyā, Qirā al-Ḍayf (46), with the wording “the house in which food is served”; al-Ṭabarānī, Makārim al-Akhlāq (162) and al-Muʿjam al-Awsaṭ (3174); and al-Bayhaqī, Shuʿab al-Īmān (9177 in the al-Rushd edition). Al-Bayhaqī expressly observed that Kathīr ibn Sulaym was alone in transmitting it from Anas and that a related report from Jābir also possessed a weak isnād. A further version is reported from Ibn ʿAbbās in Ibn Mājah (3357), but its transmission is likewise seriously defective.
Commentary: The passive verbيُغْشَى means “is visited” or “is frequented,” referring to a home regularly visited by guests and those seeking hospitality. The image of the blade reaching the camel’s hump evokes the speed with which the hump (regarded as a prized portion) would be cut when a camel was slaughtered and prepared. The comparison therefore means that goodness and blessing hasten toward the hospitable household with remarkable speed. Although there is no basis for this hadith’s claimed virtues due to the isnad, the virtues of hosting guests are found in other authentic reports, such as: “whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, should serve his guest generously” (al-Bukhārī, no. 6135).

Isnād and Rijāl: Imām Aḥmad ← Sufyān ibn ʿUyayna ← ʿAbdullāh ibn Dīnār ← ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUmar (same chain as Ḥadīth 1). Sufyān ibn ʿUyayna: thiqah ḥāfiẓ. ʿAbdullāh ibn Dīnār: thiqah. ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUmar: Companion. Takhrīj: al-Bukhārī, no. 5536; Muslim, no. 1943; Abū Dāwūd, no. 3794; al-Tirmidhī, no. 1791; al-Nasāʾī, no. 4321. The ḍabb is a large herbivorous lizard found throughout Arabia and North Africa. The Prophet (ﷺ) expressed personal aversion to it, but his refusal to declare it forbidden indicates its lawfulness for others. Other authentic reports confirm that it was eaten in his presence without his objection.

Narrated Warrad:
(The clerk of Al-Mughira) Muawiya wrote to Al-Mughira 'Write to me what you have heard from Allah's Apostle.' So he (Al-Mughira) wrote to him: Allah's Prophet used to say at the end of each prayer: "La ilaha illalla-h wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul Mulku, wa lahul Hamdu wa hula ala kulli shai'in qadir. 'Allahumma la mani' a lima a'taita, wala mu'tiya lima mana'ta, wala yanfa'u dhuljadd minkal-jadd." He also wrote to him that the Prophet used to forbid (1) Qil and Qal (idle useless talk or that you talk too much about others), (2) Asking too many questions (in disputed Religious matters); (3) And wasting one's wealth by extravagance; (4) and to be undutiful to one's mother (5) and to bury the daughters alive (6) and to prevent your favors (benevolence to others (i.e. not to pay the rights of others (7) And asking others for something (except when it is unavoidable).
