that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "The best of the Ansar are Banu 'Abdul-Ashhal."

"If we are not from Al-Azd then we are not from the people."

"They said: 'O Messenger of Allah! Thaqif are razing us with their arrows, so supplicate to Allah against them!' So he said: 'O Allah! Guide Thaqif.'"

that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "He was called Al-Khadir because he sat on a barren Farwah and it turned green beneath him."

"The Messenger of Allah would struggle (to perform Salat more) during the last ten (nights) more than he would struggle in the rest of it."

"The Messenger of Allah(s.a.w) ordered us to throw dut in the mouths of those who praise others."

That the Prophet (saws) used to like it when he set out upon an affair if he heard: "O directed one, O successful one."

[Abu 'Eisa said:] This Hadith is Hasan Sahih Gharib.

"When the Messenger of Allah (saws) entered the area in which he would relieve himself, he would remove the ring."

[Abu 'Eisa said:] This Hadith is Hasan Sahih Gharib Hadith.

"The inscription on the ring of the Prophet (saws) was in three lines: 'Muhammad' on a line, 'Messenger' on a line, and 'Allah' on a line."

Salman told that when God’s messenger was questioned about clarified butter, cheese and wild asses he replied, “What is lawful is what God has declared lawful in His Book, what is unlawful is what God has declared unlawful in His Book, and what He has said nothing about belongs to the things He ignores.” Ibn Majah and Tirmidhi transmitted it, Tirmidhi saying this is a gharib tradition which, according to the soundest opinion, is mauquf.

Asma' daughter of Abu Bakr told that she heard God's messenger say when the lote-tree of the boundary[*] was mentioned to him, "A rider can travel in the shade of a branch of it for a hundred years," or "a hundred riders can take shelter in its shade (the transmitter being in doubt); in it there are golden butterflies and its fruit looks like earthenware jars." *Quran; 53:14 Tirmidhi transmitted it, saying th is is a gharib tradition

“If anyone recites a letter of God’s Book he will be credited with a good deed, and a good deed gets a tenfold reward (Al-Qur’ān, 6:160). I do not say that A.L.M are one letter*, but alif is a letter, lām is a letter and mīm is a letter.” *These letters occur at the beginning of sūras 2, 3, 29, 30, 31 and 32. No satisfactory explanation of their meaning has been given. A brief discussion of them is given by Abdullāh Yūsuf Ali in The Holy Qur’ān, Text, Translation & Commentary (Lahore, 1934 and later editions), note 25. Sea also pp. 118-120. Tirmidhī and Dārimī transmitted it, Tirmidhī saying this is a hasan sahīh tradition whose isnad is gharīb.

He reported God’s messenger as saying, “If someone recites Hā’ Mīm ad-Dukhān (Qur’ān, 44) any night, seventy thousand angels will ask forgiveness for him in the morning.” Tirmidhī transmitted it, saying that this is a gharīb tradition and that ‘Umar b. Abū Khath'am the transmitter is declared to be weak. Muhammad, i.e. Bukhārī, said his traditions were rejected.

He reported the Prophet as saying, “If anyone who is about to sleep on his bed lies on his right side, then recites ‘Say, He is God, One’ a hundred times, the Lord will say to him on the day of resurrection, ‘My servant, enter paradise to your right’.” Tirmidhī transmitted it, saying this is a hasan gharīb tradition.

This is what al-‘Adda’ b. Khalid b. Haudha brought from Muhammad, God’s Messenger. He bought from him a slave, or a slave woman, with no disease or wickedness, or anything unlawful*, a transaction between two Muslims. Tirmidhi transmitted it, saying this is a gharib tradition. * This might be bad character on the part of the slave or unlawful enslavement.

Mu'adh reported the Prophet as saying that no woman annoys her husband in this world without his wife among the large-eyed maidens saying, “You must not annoy him. God curse you! He is only a passing guest with you and is about to leave you to come to us.” Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah transmitted it, Tirmidhi saying this is a gharib tradition.

Anas said that, on coming upon a tree whose leaves were withered, God's messenger struck it with his staff, and the leaves were scattered. He then said that “Praise be to God; Glory be to God; There is no god but God; and God is most great” cause a man's sins to fall away just as the leaves of that tree were falling. Tirmidhi transmitted it, saying this is a gharib tradition.

Asma’ daughter of Yazid said she heard God’s messenger reciting, “My servants who have transgressed against their souls, do not despair of God’s mercy, for God pardons all sins,”* [adding] “and He does not care.” *Qur’an, xxxix, 53. Ahmad and Tirmidhi transmitted it, the latter saying this is a hasan gharib tradition. Sharh as-sunna has “saying” instead of “reciting.”

When we were in Medina, the moment the Mu'adhdhin made the call to the sunset prayer, the people hastened to the pillars of the mosque and prayed two rak'ahs with the result that any stranger coming into the mosque would think that the obligatory prayer had been observed owing to the number who were praying then.

"It is from the Sunnah to say the Tashahhud quietly"

"The Messenger of Allah (saws) arrived in Makkah, and he had four braids."

[Abu 'Eisa said:] This Hadith is Gharib. Muhammad said: "I do not know of Mujahid (a narrator) hearing from Umm Hani."

When the Prophet would return from a trip and see the walls of Al-Madinah, he would speed up his riding camel, and if he was upon a beast, he would agitate it, out of his love for Al-Madinah.

“There is a supplication that I memorized from the Messenger of Allah which I do not leave off: ‘O Allah, make me revere gratitude to You, make me increase in remembrance to You, make me follow Your advice, and (make me) guard over that which you have commanded (Allāhummaj`alnī u`aẓẓimu shuraka wa ukthiru dhikraka wa attabi`u naṣīḥataka wa aḥfaẓu waṣīyatak).’”This Hadith is Gharib

“Indeed, having good thoughts concerning Allah is from the perfection of the worship of Allah.”

"The Prophet (SAW) would pare, or take from his mustache, and Ibrahim Khalilur-Rahman would do it (as well)."

"I asked 'Aishah and Umm Salamah about which deed did the Messenger of Allah (SAW) like to do most. They said: 'Whatever he could do regularly, even if it was little.'"

"When I would ask the Messenger of Allah (SAW), he would give me, and when I would be silent, he would initiate (speech or giving) with me."

that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "The people submitted while 'Amr bin Al-'As believed."

"The Prophet (SAW) died while he was having trouble with three tribes: Thaqif, Banu Hanifah, and Banu Umayyah."

"I asked Zirr bin Hubaish about the saying of Allah the Might and Sublime: And was a distance of two bow lengths or less (53:9). So he said: 'Ibn Mas'ud informed me that the Prophet (SAW) saw Jibra'il, and he had six-hundred wings.'"

"When I would ask the Messenger of Allah SAW he would give me, and when I would be silent, he would initiate (speech or giving) with me."

"The Prophet (S) stood (in prayer) with an Ayah from the Qur'an at night"

"The Prophet would have a breakfast of dates on the Day of Fitr before leaving for the Musalla."

"The swindler, the stingy person, and the Mannan shall not enter Paradise."

"It is enough sin for you that you never stop disputing."

"A man shall remain exalting himself until he is written among the tyrants, so that he suffers from their afflictions."

"Allah's Hand is with the Jama'ah."

"Neither the Messenger of Allah (s.a.w) nor his family, ate their fill of wheat bread for three consecutive days until he parted the world."

"Paradise is surrounded by hardships, and the Fire is surrounded by desires."

"Allah will say: 'Remove from the Fire whoever remembered Me one day, or feared Me while in a state of sinning."

That the Messenger of Allah (saws) said: "The best of Udhiyah (sacrifice) is a ram, and the best (burial) shroud is the Hullah."

"The ring of the Messenger of Allah (saws) was made of silver, its Fass was from it."

[Abu 'Eisa said:] This Hadith is Hasan Sahih Gharib from this route.

Ubayy b. Ka‘b reported the Prophet as saying, “Ablution has a devil called al-Walahan, so guard against the confusion caused by water.” Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah transmitted it, and Tirmidhi said, “This is a gharib tradition whose isnad is not considered by traditionists to be strong, because we know of no one but Kharija who traced it to the Prophet, and in the opinion of our school he is not strong.”

‘Abdallah b. ‘Umar told of God’s messenger taking him by the shoulders and saying, ‘‘Be in the world as though you were a stranger or one who is passing through.” Ibn ‘Umar used to say, “In the evening do not expect to see the morning and in the morning do not expect to see the evening, but take something when in health to serve you in time of illness and something in your life to serve you in your death.” Bukhari transmitted it.

“If anyone recites in the morning Hā Mīm al-Mu’min (Al-Qur’ān, 40:1-3) to ‘to Him is the final goal’ and the Throne Verse (Al-Qur’ān, 2:255) he will be guarded by them till the evening, and if anyone recites them in the evening he will be guarded by them till the morning.” Tirmidhī and Dārimī transmitted it, Tirmidhī saying this is a gharīb tradition.

“Two thousand years before creating the heavens and the earth God inscribed a book of which He sent down two verses with which He concluded Sūrat al-Baqara. The devil will not come near a house in which they are recited three nights.” Tirmidhī and Dārimī transmitted it, Tirmidhī saying this is a gharīb tradition.

"Do not sell, buy or teach singing-girls, and the price paid for them is unlawful. To similar effect has been sent down, 'Among men are those who purchase frivolous talk' (Al-Qur'an 31:6). Ahmad, Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah transmitted it, Tirmidhi saying that this is a gharib tradition and that ‘Ali b. Yazid the transmitter is declared to be a weak traditionist.

Abu Sa'id reported God’s Messenger as saying, “The one who will be dearest to God and nearest to Him in station of the day of resurrection will be a just imam, and the one who will be most hateful to God on the day of resurrection and will receive the severest punishment (or as a version has, will be farthest from Him in station) will be a tyrannical imam.” Tirmidhi transmitted it, saying this is a hasan gharib tradition.

Anas told of a man coming to the Prophet and saying, “Messenger of God, I intend to make a journey, so give me provisions.” He replied, “May God provide you with piety!” He asked for more, so he added, “And forgive your sin.” He said, “Say more, you for whom I would give my father and mother as ransom,” and he added, “And give you abundance of good wherever you are,” Tirmidhi transmitted it, saying this is a hasan gharib tradition.

“The Messenger of Allah (saw) took hold of some part of my body and said: ‘O ‘Abdullah, be in this world like a stranger, or one who is passing through, and consider yourself as one of the people of the graves.’”

"I saw the Prophet when he was performing Wudu doing that to the toes on his feet with his pinky."

That the Prophet (saws) said: "They (the two) are not separate from a sale except in agreement.

[Abu 'Eisa said:] This Hadith is Gharib.

"The Messenger of Allah (saws) prohibited eating the cat and from its price."

[Abu 'Eisa said:] This Hadith is Gharib. We do not know of any major (known) narrators who reports from 'Umar bin Zaid (one of the narrators) besides 'Abdur-Razzaq.

The Prophet said: “Whoever is reckoned with, he will be punished.”

“I saw the Messenger of Allah counting At-Tasbīḥ.”

that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "The believer will never be satisfied with the good he hears, until he ends up in Paradise."

"Abu Bakr is our chief, and the best of us, and the most beloved of us to the Messenger of Allah (SAW)."

that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said about Abu Bakr and 'Umar: "These two are the masters of the elder people among the inhabitants of Paradise. From the first ones and the last ones, not including the Prophets and the Messengers. But do not inform them O 'Ali."

that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "O Allah forgive the Ansar and the children of the Ansar, and the children of the children of the Ansar, and the women of the Ansar."

from Abu Sa'eed, from the Prophet (SAW), regarding the saying of Allah, Most High: Or some of the Signs of your Lord come (6:158). He (SAW) said: "The sun's rising from its setting place."

from his father that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "When we reached Bait Al-Maqdis, Jibra'il pointed with his finger causing a crack in the rock, and he tied Al-Buraq to it."

"The Prophet would pray Ad-Duha until we would say: 'He will not leave it.' And he would leave it until we would say: 'He will not pray it.'"

"I asked the Messenger of Allah about looking around during the Salat. He said: 'It is a portion which the Shaitan snatches during a man's prayer.'"

“When a man calls his wife to fulfill his need, then let her come, even if she is at the oven.”

"Constantinople will be conquered with the coming of the Hour."

"Indeed, at my Hawd there are drinking vessels as numerous as the stars in the heavens."

"Every son of Adam sins, and the best of the sinners are the repentant."

He said: There are narrations on this topic from Ibn 'Umar and Buraidah.

[Abu 'Eisa said:] This Hadith is Hasan Sahih Gharib from this route.

“If anything contained a remedy for death it would be senna.” Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah transmitted it, Tirmidhi saying this is a hasan gharlb tradition.

Abu Umama reported the Prophet as saying, “Nothing is dearer to God than two drops and two marks, a drop of tears from fear of God and a drop of blood shed in God’s path. Regarding the two marks, they are a mark received in God’s path and one caused by observing one of the ordinances of God most high.”* * This is said to refer to such things as hacks in hands or feet through performing ablution in cold weather, or a mark on the forehead through prostrating oneself on hot ground, or having dust on one’s feet while performing pilgrimage. Tirmidhi transmitted it, saying this is a hasan gharib tradition.

Abu Khalda[1] told that he asked Abul `Aliya[2] whether Anas had heard anything from the Prophet, and he replied that he had served him for ten years and that the Prophet had prayed for a blessing on him. He had a garden which produced two crops of fruit annually, and in it there was basil which gave off the odour of musk. He was Khalid b. Dinar at-Tamimi as-Sa'di. He was Rufai' b. Mihran ar-Rayahi. Tirmidhi transmitted it, saying this is a hasan gharib tradition.

Ibn 'Umar (RAA) narrated, ‘Allah’s Messenger (P.B.U.H.) took hold of my shoulders and said, “Be in this world as though you were a stranger or a passerby.” Ibn ’Umar used to say, “If you are alive in the evening, do not expect to be alive till the morning and if you are alive in the morning do not expect to be alive till the evening, and take from your health for your sickness, and from your life for your death.” Related by Al-Bukhari.

‘Abdallah b. Mas'ud reported God's messenger as saying, “If anyone comforts one who has been afflicted he will have a reward equivalent to his.” Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah transmitted it, Tirmidhi saying this is a gharib tradition which was known to him as traced back to the Prophet only among the traditions of ‘Ali b. ‘Asim the transmitter. He added that some transmitted it with this isnad from Muhammad b. Suqa in mauquf form.

Abū Sa'id reported God’s messenger as stating, “God who is blessed and exalted says, ‘To him who is so occupied with the Qur’ān as to neglect making mention of me and making request of me I will give the most excellent things I give to those who ask.’ The superiority of God’s words over all other words is like God’s superiority over His creatures.” Tirmidhī, Dārimī, and Baihaqī, in Shu’ab al-īmān, transmitted it, and Tirmidhī said this is a hasan gharīb tradition.

‘Abdallah b. Unais reported God’s Messenger as saying, “Among the most serious of major sins are attributing a partner to God, unfilial behaviour, and deliberate perjury. If anyone swears an oath which he is compelled to take (or a firm oath) and introduces into it as much falsehood as a gnat’s wing, a spot will be put in his heart till the day of resurrection.” Tirmidhi transmitted it, saying this is a gharib tradition.

“Whichever woman dies while her husband is pleased with her, then she enters Paradise.”

"Whoever causes harm, Allah harms him, and whoever is harsh, Allah will be harsh with him."
