Ismāʻīl narrated to us:
ʻAbd al-ʻAzīz narrated to us, from Anas, who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “When one of you supplicates, let him be resolute in the supplication, and let him not say, ‘O Allah, give me if You will,’ for there is none who can compel Allah.”

Musnad Aḥmad 3/101, no. 11980. Its isnād is ṣaḥīḥ according to the conditions of al-Bukhārī and Muslim.
One should supplicate with resolve and certainty, not making the answer conditional upon Allah’s will by saying ‘if You will’; for such conditional phrasing is out of place before the One whom nothing in the heavens or the earth can compel or prevent.
