مُسْنَدُ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ
Three-Narrator Ahadith 39
Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah narrated to us from ʿAmr ibn Dīnār, who said he heard Jābir ibn ʿAbdullāh say, “On the day of al-Ḥudaybiyyah we were one thousand four hundred, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to us, ‘You are today the best of the people of the earth.’”

حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو، سَمِعْتُ جَابِرًا، قَالَ: كُنَّا يَوْمَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ أَلْفًا وَأَرْبَعَ مِائَةٍ، فَقَالَ لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَنْتُمُ الْيَوْمَ خَيْرُ أَهْلِ الْأَرْضِ»

Musnad Aḥmad 3/308, no. 14313. Its isnād is ṣaḥīḥ according to the conditions of al-Bukhārī and Muslim.
Al-Ḥudaybiyyah is a plain a little to the west of the Madīnah to Makkah road as it ran in the Prophet’s time. The Prophet ﷺ had announced his intention to visit Makkah to perform ʻUmrah and set out with his companions. When they reached al-Ḥudaybiyyah he sent several envoys to the leaders of Quraysh to inform them of his peaceful intent; but when word reached him that ʻUthmān, whom he had sent as an envoy, had been killed, he announced that he would not leave the place until he had fought Quraysh, and he called for a pledge of allegiance known as Bayʿat al-Riḍwān, ‘the pledge of Allah’s good pleasure.’
