(37)
مُسْنَدُ طَارِقِ بْنِ أَشْيَمَ الْأَشْجَعِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ
Three-Narrator Ahadith 331
Ṭāriq ibn Ashyam al-Ashjaʿī (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that he heard the Prophet ﷺ say, “It is sufficient [punishment] for my companions to be killed.”

حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، بِبَغْدَادَ، أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مَالِكٍ الْأَشْجَعِيُّ سَعْدُ بْنُ طَارِقٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «بِحَسْبِ أَصْحَابِي الْقَتْلُ

Chain: Yazīd ibn Hārūn (narrating in Baghdad) → Abū Mālik al-Ashjaʿī, Saʿd ibn Ṭāriq → Ṭāriq ibn Ashyam al-Ashjaʿī (may Allah be pleased with him) → the Prophet ﷺ. Rijāl: as above. Takhrīj: cited by Imām al-Munāwī in Fayḍ al-Qadīr; understood by commentators to refer to those Companions who fought mistakenly on the wrong side during the later trials (such as the Battle of the Camel), their deaths serving as expiation.
