مُسْنَدُ طَارِقِ بْنِ أَشْيَمَ الْأَشْجَعِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ
Three-Narrator Ahadith 330
Abū Mālik reported:
I said to my father, “Father, you prayed behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ,” and behind Abū Bakr, ʿUmar, ʿUthmān, and ʿAlī here in Kūfah, for close to five years, “did they recite the qunūt?” He said, “My son, it is an innovation.”

حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو مَالِكٍ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِأَبِي: يَا أَبَتِ إِنَّكَ قَدْ «صَلَّيْتَ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ» ، وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ، وَعُمَرَ، وَعُثْمَانَ، وَعَلِيٍّ هَاهُنَا بِالْكُوفَةِ، قَرِيبًا مِنْ خَمْسِ سِنِينَ، أَكَانُوا يَقْنُتُونَ؟ قَالَ: أَيْ بُنَيَّ، مُحْدَثٌ

Chain: Yazīd ibn Hārūn → Abū Mālik → Ṭāriq ibn Ashyam al-Ashjaʿī (may Allah be pleased with him) → witnessed directly. Rijāl: as above. Takhrīj: same subject as the preceding report, a second, more detailed telling naming ʿAlī's Kūfah-era congregational prayers specifically; this pair of reports is a principal ḥadīth text cited by scholars who hold that qunūt in the obligatory prayers generally is not a continuous sunnah.
