مُسْنَدُ طَارِقِ بْنِ أَشْيَمَ الْأَشْجَعِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ
Three-Narrator Ahadith 327
Ṭāriq ibn Ashyam al-Ashjaʿī (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, when a man came and asked him, “O Prophet of Allah, what should I say when I ask my Lord?”:
“Say: Allāhumma ghfir lī, wa-rḥamnī, wa-hdinī, wa-rzuqnī (O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, guide me, and grant me provision).” Then he closed his fist except for the thumb, and said, “These [words] gather for you the good of your world and your Hereafter.”

حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَالِكٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَإِذَا أَتَاهُ الْإِنْسَانُ يَسْأَلُهُ قَالَ: يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ، كَيْفَ أَقُولُ حِينَ أَسْأَلُ رَبِّي؟ قَالَ: «قُلْ: اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَارْحَمْنِي وَاهْدِنِي وَارْزُقْنِي» ، وَقَبَضَ كَفَّهُ إِلَّا الْإِبْهَامَ وَقَالَ: «هَؤُلَاءِ يَجْمَعْنَ لَكَ خَيْرَ دُنْيَاكَ وَآخِرَتِكَ

Chain: Yazīd ibn Hārūn → Abū Mālik [Saʿd ibn Ṭāriq ibn Ashyam] → Ṭāriq ibn Ashyam al-Ashjaʿī (may Allah be pleased with him) → the Prophet ﷺ. Rijāl: (1) Yazīd ibn Hārūn al-Wāsiṭī: thiqah thabt, imām. (2) Abū Mālik Saʿd ibn Ṭāriq ibn Ashyam al-Ashjaʿī: thiqah. (3) Ṭāriq ibn Ashyam al-Ashjaʿī: Companion, embraced Islam and destroyed the idol of his people with his own hand. Takhrīj: Muslim; al-Nasāʾī; this short, comprehensive supplication (jawāmiʿ al-duʿāʾ) is widely cited in works on prophetic invocations for its combination of forgiveness, mercy, guidance, and provision in four words.
