مُسْنَدُ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْأَكْوَعِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ
Three-Narrator Ahadith 292
Salamah ibn al-Akwaʿ (may Allah be pleased with him) reported:
We used to pray Maghrib with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when the sun had vanished behind the veil [of the horizon].

حَدَّثَنَا مَكِّيٌّ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ: «كُنَّا نُصَلِّي الْمَغْرِبَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا تَوَارَتْ بِالْحِجَابِ

Chain: Aḥmad → Makkī ibn Ibrāhīm → Yazīd ibn Abī ʿUbayd → Salamah ibn al-Akwaʿ (may Allah be pleased with him) → the Prophet ﷺ. Rijāl: as above. Takhrīj: al-Bukhārī; Muslim, with the vivid expression "tawārat bi'l-ḥijāb" (the sun disappeared behind its veil) referring to the horizon obscuring the setting sun.
