| Grade: | Ṣaḥīḥ |
on the conditions of al-Bukhārī and Muslim.
Chain: Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah → ʿUbaydullāh ibn Abī Yazīd → ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAbbās (may Allah be pleased with both of them). Rijāl: (1) Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah: Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah ibn Mīmūn al-Hilālī al-Kūfī (d. 198 AH); thiqah ḥāfiẓ faqīh imām. (2) ʿUbaydullāh ibn Abī Yazīd: ʿUbaydullāh ibn Abī Yazīd al-Makkī; thiqah. (3) ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAbbās: Companion (Ṣaḥābī); cousin of the Prophet ﷺ and foremost exegete, Ḥabr al-Ummah; d. 68 AH at al-Ṭāʾif. Takhrīj: al-Bukhārī (1678, 1856); Muslim (1293). Commentary: This establishes the well-known concession (rukhṣah) permitting the weak, elderly, women, and children among the pilgrims to depart Muzdalifah before dawn, ahead of the main body of pilgrims, in order to avoid the crush of the crowd at Minā for the ramy (stoning) of Jamrat al-ʿAqabah, Ibn ʿAbbās here testifying to his own inclusion among this group as a young boy.
