Three-Narrator Ahadith 256
Al-Sāʾib ibn Yazīd (may Allah be pleased with him) reported:
I went out with the [other] boys to Thaniyyat al-Wadāʿ to welcome the Messenger of Allah ﷺ upon his return from the campaign of Tabūk. Sufyān [ibn ʿUyaynah] once narrated it as: “I remember the Prophet’s ﷺ arrival, when the Prophet ﷺ returned from Tabūk.”

on the conditions of al-Bukhārī and Muslim.
Chain: Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah → al-Zuhrī → al-Sāʾib ibn Yazīd (may Allah be pleased with him). Rijāl: (1) Sufyān: Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah ibn Mīmūn al-Hilālī al-Kūfī (d. 198 AH); thiqah ḥāfiẓ faqīh imām. (2) al-Zuhrī: Muḥammad ibn Muslim ibn Shihāb al-Zuhrī (d. 124 AH); thiqah mutqin faqīh ḥāfiẓ. (3) Al-Sāʾib ibn Yazīd al-Kindī: a Companion who performed Ḥajjat al-Wadāʿ with the Prophet ﷺ as a young boy of the Companions’ generation, and who is reported by some to have been the last Companion to die in Madīnah, around 91 AH. Takhrīj: al-Bukhārī (4419, 4420); recorded also in the biographical entries on al-Sāʾib in al-Iṣābah of Ibn Ḥajar. Commentary: This report preserves a vivid childhood memory of al-Sāʾib ibn Yazīd — one of several Companions who, as boys, went out to Thaniyyat al-Wadāʿ (the “Pass of Farewell” on the outskirts of Madīnah) to greet the Prophet’s ﷺ returning army, a scene also recorded in connection with the Prophet’s ﷺ return from other campaigns.
