ʿAbdullāh ibn Thaʿlabah ibn Ṣuʿayr (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet ﷺ looked upon those slain at Uḥud and said:
“I bear witness concerning these [that they fought and died for Allah’s sake]. Wrap them in their wounds and their blood.”

Chain: Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah → al-Zuhrī → ʿAbdullāh ibn Thaʿlabah ibn Ṣuʿayr (may Allah be pleased with him), with Sufyān noting that Maʿmar [ibn Rāshid] confirmed the chain for him. Rijāl: (1) Sufyān: Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah ibn Mīmūn al-Hilālī al-Kūfī (d. 198 AH); thiqah ḥāfiẓ faqīh imām. (2) Al-Zuhrī: Muḥammad ibn Muslim ibn Shihāb al-Zuhrī (d. 124 AH); thiqah mutqin faqīh ḥāfiẓ. (3) Maʿmar ibn Rāshid, mentioned here as confirming the report: thiqah thabt, one of al-Zuhrī’s most reliable students. Died 153 AH. (4) ʿAbdullāh ibn Thaʿlabah ibn Ṣuʿayr al-ʿAdhrī: counted among the Companions, though he was only a young child during the Prophet’s ﷺ lifetime, some scholars classing him among the youngest of the Ṣaḥābah on account of this. Takhrīj: the burial of the martyrs of Uḥud without the customary washing (ghusl), in the very clothes and blood in which they fell, is extensively and soundly documented in al-Bukhārī (1346) and (4079), narrated from Jābir ibn ʿAbdullāh. Commentary: This ruling — that martyrs slain in battle are buried without ritual washing, in the clothing and blood they died in — is agreed upon by the fuqahāʾ as a mark of honor, their blood itself standing as testimony before Allah on the Day of Judgment, in contrast to the ordinary obligation of ghusl for the deceased.
