| Grade: | Ṣaḥīḥ |
its isnād is Ḥasan.
Chain: ʿUmar ibn ʿUbayd → Simāk ibn Ḥarb → Jābir ibn Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him). Rijāl: (1) ʿUmar ibn ʿUbayd: ʿUmar ibn ʿUbayd Abū Ḥafṣ al-Ṭanāfisī; thiqah, a Kūfan narrator. (2) Simāk ibn Ḥarb: Simāk ibn Ḥarb al-Dhuhlī (d. 123 AH); ṣadūq (his later narrations, and those from ʿIkrimah, drew scrutiny — not applicable here). (3) Jābir ibn Samurah: Companion (Ṣaḥābī); kinsman of the Prophet ﷺ who settled in Kūfah and died there in the later first century AH. Takhrīj: Muslim, Kitāb al-Jumuʿah, bāb al-khuṭbah qāʾiman (862); Abū Dāwūd (1092); al-Nasāʾī (1414). Commentary: This establishes that standing while delivering the khuṭbah (sermon), whether for the Friday prayer or otherwise, was the Prophet’s ﷺ consistent practice, a point relied upon by the fuqahāʾ in the recommended (and, in some schools, obligatory when able) posture for the khaṭīb.
