Three-Narrator Ahadith 244
Jābir ibn Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported:
I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, “There will be twelve leaders after me,” then he ﷺ said something I could not make out, so I asked one of those present, or the person next to me, “What did he say?” He said, “All of them will be from Quraysh.”

Chain: ʿUmar ibn ʿUbayd Abū Ḥafṣ al-Ṭanāfisī → Simāk ibn Ḥarb → Jābir ibn Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him). Rijāl: (1) ʿUmar ibn ʿUbayd Abū Ḥafṣ al-Ṭanāfisī: thiqah, a Kūfan narrator (father of the well-known narrators Yaʿlā and Muḥammad, sons of ʿUbayd al-Ṭanāfisī). (2) Simāk ibn Ḥarb al-Dhuhlī: ṣadūq, though critics noted his narrations became somewhat less precise later in life and his reports specifically from ʿIkrimah drew particular scrutiny — neither concern applies to this report. Died 123 AH. (3) Jābir ibn Samurah: Companion (Ṣaḥābī); kinsman of the Prophet ﷺ who settled in Kūfah and died there in the later first century AH. Takhrīj: Muslim, Kitāb al-Imārah (1821); al-Tirmidhī (2223); Abū Dāwūd (4280). Commentary: A parallel transmission of the same tradition through an entirely separate chain (via Simāk ibn Ḥarb rather than ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿUmayr), strengthening confidence in the core report despite minor differences in wording (“this affair will continue” versus “there will be after me”).
