مُسْنَدُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ
Three-Narrator Ahadith 240
ʿAbdullāh ibn Abī Awfā (may Allah be pleased with him) reported:
I asked him, “Did the Prophet ﷺ enter the House [the Kaʿbah] during his ʿUmrah?” He said, “No.”

حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى، صَاحِبِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ: أَدَخَلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الْبَيْتَ فِي عُمْرَتِهِ؟ قَالَ: «لَا»

Rijāl: (1) Hushaym: Hushaym ibn Bushayr al-Wāsiṭī (d. 183 AH); thiqah thabt, though he practiced a subtle tadlīs (al-taswiyah); accepted where he states he was informed, as here. (2) Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid: Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid al-Aḥmasī al-Bajalī (d. 146 AH); thiqah thabt. (3) Ibn Abī Awfā: ʿAbdullāh ibn Abī Awfā; Companion (Ṣaḥābī); one of the Companions of the Tree (Bayʿat al-Riḍwān) and the last Companion to die in Kūfah, 86–87 AH. Takhrīj: al-Bukhārī, Kitāb al-ʿUmrah, bāb ʿumrat al-qaḍāʾ (1780). Commentary: This narration clarifies that during ʿUmrat al-Qaḍāʾ the Prophet ﷺ did not enter the interior of the Kaʿbah itself, a detail relevant to the fuqahāʾ’s discussions on the distinction between the obligatory rites of ʿUmrah (ṭawāf and saʿy) and the supererogatory act of entering the Kaʿbah’s interior, which is not a condition for the validity of ʿUmrah or Ḥajj.
