Three-Narrator Ahadith 239
ʿAbdullāh ibn Abī Awfā (may Allah be pleased with him) reported:
Had there been a prophet after the Prophet ﷺ, his son Ibrāhīm would not have died.

حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ أَبِي أَوْفَى يَقُولُ: «لَوْ كَانَ بَعْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ نَبِيٌّ مَا مَاتَ ابْنُهُ إِبْرَاهِيمُ»

Chain: Wakīʿ ibn al-Jarrāḥ → Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid → ʿAbdullāh ibn Abī Awfā (may Allah be pleased with him). Rijāl: (1) Wakīʿ ibn al-Jarrāḥ: Wakīʿ ibn al-Jarrāḥ al-Ruʾāsī (d. 197 AH); thiqah ḥāfiẓ, precise and devout. (2) Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid: Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid al-Aḥmasī al-Bajalī (d. 146 AH); thiqah thabt. (3) ʿAbdullāh ibn Abī Awfā: ʿAbdullāh ibn Abī Awfā; Companion (Ṣaḥābī); one of the Companions of the Tree (Bayʿat al-Riḍwān) and the last Companion to die in Kūfah, 86–87 AH. Takhrīj: al-Bukhārī, Kitāb al-Janāʾiz, bāb qawl al-nabī ﷺ “innā bika la-mahzūnūn” (1220, 1303); Ibn Mājah (1511). Commentary: This report reflects Ibn Abī Awfā’s own reasoned inference (ijtihād) upon witnessing the depth of the Prophet’s ﷺ grief at the death of his infant son Ibrāhīm — affirming, in line with the Qurʾānic declaration that Muḥammad ﷺ is “the Seal of the Prophets” (33:40), that had prophethood continued after him, it might have passed through Ibrāhīm; since it did not, this stands as further confirmation that no prophet will come after him ﷺ.
