Chain: Aḥmad → Abū Muʿāwiya Muḥammad ibn Khāzim → ʿĀṣim al-Aḥwal → Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) → the Prophet ﷺ. Rijāl: (1) Abū Muʿāwiya Muḥammad ibn Khāzim al-Ḍarīr al-Kūfī (d. 195 AH): thiqa, especially strong in his transmission from al-Aʿmash; a major teacher of Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal. (2) ʿĀṣim ibn Sulaymān al-Aḥwal al-Baṣrī: thiqa, d. 142 AH. (3) Anas ibn Mālik: Companion, d. ca. 93 AH. Takhrīj: Al-Bukhārī (107); Muslim (3); al-Tirmidhī (2659); Aḥmad (12110). The report is mutawātir, transmitted from more than seventy Companions, and the scholars of ḥadīth placed it at the head of their works as a warning to themselves before others. The word mutaʿammidan, intentionally, is the pivot of the ruling: deliberate fabrication is the offence, while error is excused, though it obliges correction.
