مُسْنَدُ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ خَادِمِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ
Three-Narrator Ahadith 171
Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“The voice of Abū Ṭalḥah in the army is worth more than a full contingent of men.”

قُرِئَ عَلَى سُفْيَانَ: سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ جُدْعَانَ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «لَصَوْتُ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ فِي الْجَيْشِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ فِئَةٍ».

Rijāl: (1) Sufyān ibn ʿUyayna al-Hilālī al-Makkī: thiqa ḥāfiẓ faqīh, d. 198 AH. (2) ʿAlī ibn Zayd ibn Judʿān al-Taymī al-Baṣrī: ḍaʿīf, d. 131 AH. (3) Anas ibn Mālik: Companion, d. ca. 93 AH. Takhrīj: Aḥmad (12095); al-Ḥākim, al-Mustadrak (3/346). Abū Ṭalḥa Zayd ibn Sahl al-Anṣārī (may Allah be pleased with him) was renowned for his powerful voice, his marksmanship and his steadfastness; he was the husband of Umm Sulaym and thus the stepfather of Anas. At Uḥud he shielded the Prophet ﷺ with his own body. The report conveys the effect of a resolute voice upon the morale of an army, a fiʾa being a body of fighting men.
