Musnad Aḥmad 170

on account of Ibn Judʿān; the content is established through other narrations.
Chain: Aḥmad → Sufyān ibn ʿUyayna → ʿAlī ibn Zayd ibn Judʿān → Thābit al-Bunānī → Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him). Note on the number of links: Counted strictly, the chain from Aḥmad to Anas passes through four transmitters, Sufyān, Ibn Judʿān, Thābit and Anas, which makes it rubāʿī rather than thulāthī. It is retained here because the compilers of the thulāthiyyāt admitted it on the basis of the reading to Sufyān and his confirmation; the reader should note the discrepancy. Rijāl: (1) Sufyān ibn ʿUyayna al-Hilālī al-Makkī: thiqa ḥāfiẓ faqīh, d. 198 AH. (2) ʿAlī ibn Zayd ibn Judʿān al-Taymī al-Baṣrī: ḍaʿīf, d. 131 AH. (3) Thābit ibn Aslam al-Bunānī al-Baṣrī (d. 127 AH): thiqa ʿābid; the best known of the direct students of Anas, who related from him for some forty years. (4) Anas ibn Mālik: Companion, d. ca. 93 AH. Takhrīj: Aḥmad (12094). The kissing of the hand of the learned and the righteous is established by a number of reports, and the jurists permit it where it expresses honor for knowledge or religion rather than servility or worldly rank. The report also conveys the veneration in which the Successors held any limb that had touched the Prophet ﷺ.
