Rijāl: (1) Sufyān ibn ʿUyayna al-Hilālī al-Makkī: thiqa ḥāfiẓ faqīh, d. 198 AH. (2) Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd al-Anṣārī al-Madanī (d. 143 AH): thiqa thabt; one of the great Madinan imāms of the Tābiʿīn and a jurist of the seven. (3) Anas ibn Mālik: Companion, d. ca. 93 AH. Takhrīj: Al-Bukhārī (220); Muslim (284); al-Nasāʾī (56); Ibn Māja (528); Aḥmad (12082). The narration is a foundational text on the purification of najāsa upon the ground by pouring abundant water over it, without any need to remove the soil. Dhanūb and sajl both denote a large bucket filled with water. See Fatḥ al-Bārī (1/323).
