مُسْنَدُ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ خَادِمِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ
Three-Narrator Ahadith 123
Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported:
I was standing among the clan serving them faḍīkh — a drink made of dates — when a man came and said: “Intoxicating drinks have been prohibited.” They said: “Pour it away, Anas!” So I poured it away. [Ḥumayd] said: I asked [Anas]: “What was their drink made of?” He replied: “Unripe and ripe dates mixed.” Abū Bakr, the son of Anas, said: “That was their intoxicating drink at the time” — and Anas was listening and did not deny it. Some of those present with us said: Anas [also] said: “That was their intoxicating drink at that time.”

حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا التَّيْمِيُّ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ: «كُنْتُ قَائِمًا عَلَى الْحَيِّ أَسْقِيهِمْ مِنْ فَضِيخِ تَمْرٍ، فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ: إِنَّ الْخَمْرَ قَدْ حُرِّمَتْ». قَالُوا: أَكْفِئْهَا يَا أَنَسُ. فَأَكْفَأْتُهَا. قُلْتُ: مَا كَانَ شَرَابُهُمْ؟ قَالَ: «الْبُسْرُ وَالرُّطَبُ». وَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَنَسٍ: «كَانَتْ خَمْرَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ». وَأَنَسٌ يَسْمَعُ فَلَمْ يُنْكِرْهُ. وَقَالَ بَعْضُ مَنْ كَانَ مَعَنَا: قَالَ أَنَسٌ: «كَانَتْ خَمْرَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ».

Chain: Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal → Yaḥyā [ibn Saʿīd al-Qaṭṭān] → Sulaymān [ibn Ṭarkhān] al-Taymī → Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) → the Prophet ﷺ. Rijāl: (1) Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd al-Qaṭṭān: thiqa mutqin. (2) Sulaymān ibn Ṭarkhān al-Taymī al-Baṣrī: thiqa ʿābid; died 143 AH. (3) Anas ibn Mālik: Companion. Takhrīj: Aḥmad (3/182), no. 12888; al-Bukhārī (5599) and (4616); Muslim (1980). The ḥadīth documents the immediate and unconditional obedience of the Companions upon hearing the prohibition of intoxicants — they poured away their drinks at once without seeking further confirmation.
