Three-Narrator Ahadith 12
Sufyān reported from ʿAmr ibn Dīnār:
“They discussed whether a man who enters iḥrām for ʿumra and then exits it may approach his wife before performing the saʿy between al-Ṣafā and al-Marwa. We asked Jābir ibn ʿAbdillāh, and he said: ‘No, not until he performs the saʿy.’ We also asked Ibn ʿUmar, and he said: ‘The Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) arrived [at Mecca], circumambulated the House seven times, prayed two rakʿas behind the maqām, and performed the saʿy between al-Ṣafā and al-Marwa,’ then he recited: ‘Indeed in the Messenger of Allāh there is an excellent example for you to follow’ (al-Aḥzāb, 33:21).”

isnād meets the conditions of al-Bukhārī and Muslim (al-Arnaʾūṭ, no. 4641).
Isnād: Imām Aḥmad ← Sufyān ibn ʿUyayna ← ʿAmr ibn Dīnār ← ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUmar (with Jābir ibn ʿAbdillāh as an additional witness within the narrative). Both Jābir and Ibn ʿUmar are thus supporting authorities, the three-link chain being through Ibn ʿUmar. Rijāl: Sufyān ibn ʿUyayna: thiqah ḥāfiẓ. ʿAmr ibn Dīnār: thiqah ḥāfiẓ. ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUmar: Companion. Plus Jābir ibn ʿAbdillāh al-Anṣārī (d. 78 AH): eminent Ṣaḥābī who narrated a large number of ḥadīths; see his full bio under the Jābir section below. Takhrīj: al-Bukhārī, nos. 1627, 1793; Muslim, no. 1228; Abū Dāwūd, no. 1995; al-Nasāʾī, no. 2726. The consensus of the two companions confirms that the ḥalāl (iḥlāl) after ʿumra is not complete until after both the circumambulation (ṭawāf) and the walking (saʿy) are performed; marital relations before completing the saʿy are not permissible.
