isnād meets the conditions of al-Bukhārī and Muslim (al-Arnaʾūṭ, no. 4942).
Isnād and Rijāl: Imām Aḥmad ← Sufyān ibn ʿUyayna ← ʿAbdullāh ibn Dīnār ← ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUmar (same chain as Ḥadīth 1). Sufyān ibn ʿUyayna: thiqah ḥāfiẓ. ʿAbdullāh ibn Dīnār: thiqah. ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUmar: Companion. Takhrīj: al-Bukhārī, nos. 894, 878; Muslim, no. 844; Abū Dāwūd, no. 342; al-Tirmidhī, no. 492; al-Nasāʾī, no. 1378; Ibn Mājah, no. 1088. Performing ghusl on Friday in preparation for the prayer is a confirmed sunnah (sunnah muʾakkada); some scholars consider it obligatory based on this and similar reports, including the Prophet’s statement: “Ghusl on Friday is obligatory (wājib) on every adult Muslim.” The majority of scholars, however, hold that other authentic reports and the companions’ practice reduce this obligation to the level of confirmed sunnah.
