Three-Narrator Ahadith 68
Muʻtamir narrated to us from Ḥumayd, from Anas, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “If a morsel belonging to one of you falls, let him pick it up, remove whatever dirt is on it, and eat it; and let him not leave it for Satan.”

Musnad Aḥmad 68

Musnad Aḥmad 3/100, no. 11964. Its isnād is ṣaḥīḥ according to the conditions of al-Bukhārī and Muslim. It is independently recorded from Anas in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim (no. 2033), within the fuller report that the Prophet ﷺ would lick his three fingers after eating, instructed that the fallen morsel be picked up and cleaned, and commanded that the dish be scraped clean, explaining: “You do not know in which part of your food the blessing lies.” The wording “do not leave it for Satan” is also authentically narrated from Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh in Muslim’s Ṣaḥīḥ (no. 2034), in a longer report concerning Satan’s participation in a person’s affairs, including eating. The command concerns food that can be cleaned and remains fit to eat; if it falls onto actual impurity, it must be washed if possible, or otherwise given to an animal rather than consumed.
