مُسْنَدُ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ خَادِمِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ
Three-Narrator Ahadith 56
Hushaym narrated to us:
ʻAbd al-ʻAzīz ibn Ṣuhayb and Ismāʻīl informed us, from ʻAbd al-ʻAzīz, from Anas, who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Take the pre-dawn meal (saḥūr), for in the pre-dawn meal there is a blessing.”

حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ صُهَيْبٍ، وَإِسْمَاعِيلُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «تَسَحَّرُوا، فَإِنَّ فِي السُّحُورِ بَرَكَةً»

Musnad Aḥmad 3/99, no. 11950. Its isnād is ṣaḥīḥ according to the conditions of al-Bukhārī and Muslim.
The blessing of the saḥūr takes many forms: it is a following of the Prophet’s Sunnah, it distinguishes the Muslim’s fast from that of the People of the Book, and it strengthens one for worship. Ibn Daqīq al-ʻĪd noted that these blessings may relate to the Hereafter, through the reward of following the Sunnah, and to this world, through the strength it gives to fast without harm.
