مُسْنَدُ يُوسُفَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَلَامٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ
Three-Narrator Ahadith 322
Yūsuf ibn ʿAbdullāh ibn Salām (may Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to a man of the Anṣār and his wife, “Perform ʿUmrah in Ramaḍān, for ʿUmrah in it is equivalent to Ḥajj for the two of you.” (On another occasion Sufyān related it without saying “Ibn al-Munkadir narrated to me,” with the wording: “For ʿUmrah in it is equivalent to Ḥajj.”)

Chain: Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah → Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir → Yūsuf ibn ʿAbdullāh ibn Salām (may Allah be pleased with him) → the Prophet ﷺ. Rijāl: (1) Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah al-Hilālī: thiqah ḥāfiẓ, imām, one of the foremost scholars of Makkah in his generation, d. 198 AH. (2) Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir al-Taymī: thiqah, a notable tābiʿī jurist of Madīnah, d. 130 AH. (3) Yūsuf: as above. Takhrīj: the core report that ʿUmrah in Ramaḍān equals Ḥajj in reward is well attested in al-Bukhārī and Muslim, most famously addressed to Umm Maʿqil through Ibn ʿAbbās; this version, addressed to an Anṣārī man and his wife, is a distinct corroborating occasion. Commentary: this concerns reward alone and does not exempt a person from the obligatory Ḥajj if unperformed.
