Three-Narrator Ahadith 280
Salamah ibn al-Akwaʿ (may Allah be pleased with him) reported:
I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ along with the people at al-Ḥudaybiyah, then sat down apart. When the people had dispersed from around the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he ﷺ said, “O Ibn al-Akwaʿ, will you not pledge allegiance?” I said, “I have already pledged, O Messenger of Allah.” He ﷺ said, “Do so again.” I asked, “On what did you [all] pledge?” He ﷺ said, “Upon death.”

Chain: Ḥammād ibn Masʿadah → Yazīd ibn Abī ʿUbayd → Salamah ibn al-Akwaʿ (may Allah be pleased with him). Rijāl: (1) Ḥammād ibn Masʿadah: Ḥammād ibn Masʿadah al-Tamīmī; thiqah. (2) Yazīd ibn Abī ʿUbayd: Yazīd ibn Abī ʿUbayd al-Aslamī, mawlā of Salamah; thiqah. (3) Salamah ibn al-Akwaʿ: Salamah ibn ʿAmr ibn al-Akwaʿ; Companion (Ṣaḥābī); present at Bayʿat al-Riḍwān; d. 74 AH. Takhrīj: al-Bukhārī (4169) and (2959); Muslim (1860). Commentary: This narrates Salamah's own participation in Bayʿat al-Riḍwān, the historic Pledge of the Tree at al-Ḥudaybiyah in 6 AH (referenced in Qurʾān 48:18), where the Companions pledged not to flee from battle but to fight, if necessary, to the death, in response to the (false) news that ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān had been killed by the Quraysh; the Prophet's ﷺ gentle insistence that Salamah renew his pledge, though he had already given it once, reflects his ﷺ wish that no Companion be left out of this momentous and blessed covenant.
