مُسْنَدُ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْأَكْوَعِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ

Salamah ibn al-Akwaʿ (may Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Whoever lies about me deliberately, let him take his seat in the Fire.”

حَدَّثَنَا الضَّحَّاكُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي عُبَيْدٍ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْأَكْوَعِ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ: «مَنْ كَذَبَ عَلَيَّ مُتَعَمِّدًا فَلْيَتَبَوَّأْ مَقْعَدَهُ مِنَ النَّارِ

Chain: al-Ḍaḥḥāk ibn Makhlad, Abū ʿĀṣim al-Nabīl → Yazīd ibn Abī ʿUbayd → Salamah ibn al-Akwaʿ (may Allah be pleased with him) → the Prophet ﷺ. Rijāl: (1) Al-Ḍaḥḥāk ibn Makhlad, Abū ʿĀṣim al-Nabīl: thiqah thabt, a leading scholar of Baṣrah, known for his precision and worship. Died 212 AH. (2) Yazīd ibn Abī ʿUbayd: thiqah. (3) Salamah ibn al-Akwaʿ: his full name is Salamah ibn ʿAmr ibn al-Akwaʿ; he attended the Bayʿat al-Riḍwān and died in 74 AH. Takhrīj: al-Bukhārī (109); Muslim's introduction (Muqaddimah, 1 to 4); this wording of "man kadhaba ʿalayya mutaʿammidan" is the widely mutawātir version of the same warning already treated in full at the opening ḥadīth of this collection (narrated there from Salamah ibn al-Akwaʿ through Makkī ibn Ibrāhīm). Commentary: As previously discussed at the very first ḥadīth of this collection, this is among the most widely and independently transmitted (mutawātir) statements of the Prophet ﷺ, here reaching us again through an entirely separate chain via al-Ḍaḥḥāk ibn Makhlad, highlighting the gravity with which the early community treated the deliberate fabrication of Prophetic sayings.
