its transmitters trustworthy.
Chain: Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah → ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿUmayr → ʿUmārah ibn Ruwaybah al-Thaqafī (may Allah be pleased with him). Rijāl: (1) Sufyān: Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah ibn Mīmūn al-Hilālī al-Kūfī (d. 198 AH); thiqah ḥāfiẓ faqīh imām. (2) ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿUmayr: ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿUmayr al-Lakhmī al-Kūfī (d. 136 AH), thiqah, here specifically confirmed by Sufyān himself, who when asked from whom ʿAbd al-Malik had heard this, answered plainly, "from ʿUmārah ibn Ruwaybah", again illustrating the transmitters' meticulous concern for precision of source. (3) ʿUmārah ibn Ruwaybah al-Thaqafī: a Companion who later settled in Kūfah. Takhrīj: Muslim (634); al-Tirmidhī (2637); al-Nasāʾī (487). Commentary: "Before sunrise and before sunset" refers to the Fajr and ʿAṣr prayers, understood by the commentators as representative of the entire prescribed prayers, since diligence in preserving these two, often the most difficult to maintain, being at the edges of sleep and daily activity, reflects genuine steadfastness in prayer as a whole, a promise of salvation from the Fire for whoever guards them.
