مُسْنَدُ جُنْدَبِ بْنِ سُفْيَانَ الْبَجَلِيِّ الْعَلَقِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ
Three-Narrator Ahadith 248
Jundub ibn Sufyān al-Bajalī (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said:
“I will be your forerunner at the [Kawthar] Pond.” Sufyān [ibn ʿUyaynah] explained: “The faraṭ is the one who goes ahead of others.”

Chain: Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah → ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿUmayr → Jundub ibn Sufyān al-Bajalī al-ʿAlaqī (may Allah be pleased with him). Rijāl: (1) Sufyān: Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah ibn Mīmūn al-Hilālī al-Kūfī (d. 198 AH); thiqah ḥāfiẓ faqīh imām. (2) ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿUmayr: ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿUmayr al-Lakhmī al-Kūfī (d. 136 AH); thiqah, though his memory changed in advanced age and he was occasionally noted for tadlīs. (3) Jundub ibn Sufyān al-Bajalī al-ʿAlaqī: a Companion from the tribe of Bajīlah, who settled in Kūfah. Takhrīj: al-Bukhārī, Kitāb al-Riqāq, bāb fī al-ḥawḍ (6587), and Kitāb al-Manāqib (3596) narrated from Sahl ibn Saʿd with similar wording; Muslim, Kitāb al-Faḍāʾil (2296). Commentary: The Prophet’s ﷺ role as the “forerunner” (faraṭ) of his ummah at al-Ḥawḍ — the Pond of al-Kawthar on the Day of Judgment — reflects his role in preparing the way and awaiting his followers there, a central element of Islamic eschatology also affirmed in the Qurʾānic reference to al-Kawthar (108:1).
