(weak).
Chain: Isḥāq ibn Yūsuf al-Azraq → al-Aʿmash Sulaymān ibn Mihrān → ʿAbdullāh ibn Abī Awfā (may Allah be pleased with him). Rijāl: (1) Isḥāq ibn Yūsuf al-Azraq al-Wāsiṭī: thiqah mutqin, described by critics as precise though occasionally hurried in narration. Died 195 AH. (2) Al-Aʿmash, Sulaymān ibn Mihrān al-Kāhilī: thiqah ḥāfiẓ, one of the most reliable narrators of Kūfah, but well known for practicing tadlīs (concealing the manner of hearing), and here he narrates with “ʿan” rather than an explicit statement of hearing, which is the primary cause of the chain’s weakness given his known tadlīs. Died 148 AH. (3) Ibn Abī Awfā: ʿAbdullāh ibn Abī Awfā; Companion (Ṣaḥābī); one of the Companions of the Tree (Bayʿat al-Riḍwān) and the last Companion to die in Kūfah, 86–87 AH. Takhrīj: the general condemnation of the Khawārij as the “dogs of Hellfire” is recorded through other, partly corroborating chains in Ibn Mājah, Kitāb al-Sunnah (173), and is treated by several later critics, including al-Albānī, as strengthened to the level of ḥasan when its various chains are combined, despite this particular chain’s individual weakness due to al-Aʿmash’s tadlīs. Commentary: This severe description reflects the Prophet’s ﷺ warning against the Khawārij’s extremism — their literalist, takfīrī reading of the Qurʾān divorced from its proper context, and their willingness to declare fellow Muslims disbelievers and shed their blood, a phenomenon that emerged in the years following his death but whose roots he ﷺ is here reported to have foreseen and condemned in the strongest terms.
