Rijāl: (1) Thābit ibn al-Walīd ibn ʿAbdullāh ibn Jumayʿ: a minor, local narrator transmitting from his own father, graded maqbūl (acceptable) by the critics. (2) Al-Walīd ibn ʿAbdullāh ibn Jumayʿ: al-Walīd ibn ʿAbdullāh ibn Jumayʿ al-Zuhrī al-Kūfī; ṣadūq yahim (truthful, occasionally errs). (3) Abū al-Ṭufayl: ʿĀmir ibn Wāthilah al-Laythī; Companion (Ṣaḥābī); by consensus the last Companion to die, c. 100–110 AH at Makkah; saw the Prophet ﷺ as a boy. Takhrīj: Abū al-Ṭufayl’s birth in the year of Uḥud (3 AH) and his brief childhood exposure to the Prophet ﷺ before the latter’s death in 11 AH is a biographical detail repeated by Ibn Saʿd in al-Ṭabaqāt al-Kubrā and by al-Dhahabī in Siyar Aʿlām al-Nubalāʾ in their entries on him. Commentary: This narration is valuable chiefly for establishing Abū al-Ṭufayl’s precise age and the extent of his direct exposure to the Prophet ﷺ, information relied upon by later ḥadīth critics in assessing which of his reports rest on personal witness versus what he later heard from other Companions.
