Three-Narrator Ahadith 181
Nawfal ibn Masʿūd reported:
“We came to Anas ibn Mālik and said: ‘Narrate to us what you heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.’ He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: ‘Three qualities: whoever possesses them is protected from the Fire and the Fire is forbidden for him: faith in Allah, love of Allah, and that being cast into the fire and burned is more beloved to him than returning to disbelief.’”

Musnad Aḥmad 181

Chain: Aḥmad → Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd al-Qaṭṭān → Nawfal ibn Masʿūd → Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) → the Prophet ﷺ. Rijāl: (1) Yaḥyā ibn Saʿīd al-Qaṭṭān al-Baṣrī: thiqa mutqin, d. 198 AH. (2) Nawfal ibn Masʿūd: a Tābiʿī who related from Anas; classified maqbūl by Ibn Ḥajar, that is, accepted where corroborated. (3) Anas ibn Mālik: Companion, d. ca. 93 AH. Takhrīj: Al-Tirmidhī (2604), who graded it ḥasan gharīb; the three qualities of faith are reported with different wording from Anas in al-Bukhārī (16) and Muslim (43); Aḥmad (12122). The third quality, that a person would sooner be thrown into fire than return to disbelief, marks the summit of ʿizzat al-īmān, the dignity that faith confers, and echoes the account of the boy and the king and the story of the People of the Ditch in Q. 85.
