according to the conditions of al-Bukhārī and Muslim.
Chain: Aḥmad → Sufyān ibn ʿUyayna → Muḥammad ibn Shihāb al-Zuhrī → Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) → the Prophet ﷺ. Rijāl: (1) Sufyān ibn ʿUyayna al-Hilālī al-Makkī: thiqa ḥāfiẓ faqīh imām, d. 198 AH. (2) Muḥammad ibn Shihāb al-Zuhrī al-Madanī: thiqa ḥāfiẓ faqīh imām, d. 124 AH. (3) Anas ibn Mālik: Companion, d. ca. 93 AH. Takhrīj: Al-Bukhārī (4213) and (5159); Muslim (1365); Aḥmad (12078). Ṣafiyyah bint Ḥuyayy ibn Akhṭab (may Allah be pleased with her) was the daughter of the chief of Banū al-Naḍīr and became the wife of the Prophet ﷺ following the expedition of Khaybar in 7 AH, her freedom serving as her dower. Sawīq is a meal of parched barley or wheat, taken mixed with water, ghee, or dates. That so plain a walīmah is recorded alongside the report that the Prophet ﷺ offered a sheep at the marriage of Zaynab shows that the Sunnah is fulfilled by what one can afford, and that lavishness is no condition of it.
