Chain: Aḥmad → Sufyān ibn ʿUyayna → Muḥammad ibn Shihāb al-Zuhrī → Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) → the Prophet ﷺ. Rijāl: (1) Sufyān ibn ʿUyayna ibn Abī ʿImrān Maymūn al-Hilālī al-Makkī: thiqa ḥāfiẓ faqīh imām ḥujja; among the foremost ḥadīth imāms of the second century and the leading transmitter of Makkah in his age. Born at Kūfah ca. 107 AH, died at Makkah 198 AH. (2) Muḥammad ibn Muslim ibn ʿUbaydillāh ibn ʿAbdillāh ibn Shihāb al-Zuhrī al-Madanī: thiqa mutqin ḥāfiẓ faqīh imām; the foremost of the Tābiʿīn in ḥadīth and the first to systematically compile the Sunnah at the instruction of ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz. Born ca. 51 AH, died 124 AH. (3) Anas ibn Mālik: Companion, d. ca. 93 AH. Takhrīj: Al-Bukhārī (5589); Muslim (1993); Aḥmad (12071). Al-dubbāʾ is a vessel made from a dried gourd and al-muzaffat a jar sealed with pitch; both retain heat and accelerate fermentation, so that a drink left in them may become intoxicating without the owner's knowledge. A number of scholars hold that the prohibition on the vessels themselves was later abrogated, the enduring ruling being the prohibition of the intoxicant however it is produced, while others maintain the prohibition as a precaution.
