Three-Narrator Ahadith 137
Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported:
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Ask me about anything [that will occur between now and] the Day of Resurrection, I will inform you of it.” ʿAbdullāh ibn Ḥudhāfah stood and said, “O Messenger of Allah, who is my father?” He replied, “Your father is Ḥudhāfah.” When his mother later reproached him, he said, “I only wanted to be at ease,” for there had been talk about [the legitimacy of his parentage]. Ḥumayd added: “I believe this last part was narrated from Anas.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ became angry, whereupon ʿUmar said: “We are pleased with Allah as our Lord, with Islam as our religion, and with Muḥammad ﷺ as our Prophet. We seek refuge in Allah from the wrath of Allah and the wrath of His Messenger.” Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 137
