Three-Narrator Ahadith 135
Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported:
Some men from the tribe of ʿUraynah embraced Islam but became ill, as the climate of Madinah did not suit them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to them, “Would you not go out to our herd of camels and drink their milk?” Ḥumayd added that Qatādah's version from Anas includes: “and their urine.” So they did. Once they had recovered, however, they apostatized, killed the believing herdsman of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and drove off the Prophet's ﷺ camels before fleeing. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ dispatched men in pursuit of them; they were caught and brought back. He then ordered their hands and feet to be cut off and their eyes to be gouged out, and they were left in al-Ḥarrah until they died.

according to the conditions of al-Bukhārī and Muslim.
Chain: Aḥmad → Muḥammad ibn Abī ʿAdiyy → Ḥumayd al-Ṭawīl → Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) → the Prophet ﷺ. Rijāl: (1) Muḥammad ibn Abī ʿAdiyy al-Sulamī al-Baṣrī: thiqa thabt, d. 194 AH. (2) Ḥumayd al-Ṭawīl al-Baṣrī: thiqa, d. 142 AH. (3) Anas ibn Mālik: Companion, d. ca. 93 AH. Takhrīj: Al-Bukhārī (233) and (6805); Muslim (1671); Aḥmad (12042). Al-Ḥarrah is a barren lava plain of dark volcanic rock on the outskirts of Madinah. The incident, dated by the biographers to 6 AH, is a principal text in the chapters on ḥirāba, armed brigandage, and the punishment carried out corresponds to the penalties named in Q. 5:33. Commentators note that the retaliation matched the manner of the crime, since the herdsman had himself been mutilated. The insertion of Qatādah's wording within Ḥumayd's narration is an instance of a transmitter noting a variant he had received through a second route.
