Three-Narrator Ahadith 119
Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported:
On the day of Uḥud the Prophet ﷺ had his forehead wounded, his front lower tooth broken, and was struck upon both shoulders. Blood was streaming down his face and he was wiping it away while saying: “How can a people ever succeed who have done this to their Prophet as he calls them to Allah?” Thereupon Allah revealed: ﴾It is not for you [O Muḥammad] to decide — whether He turns to them in mercy or punishes them, for they are indeed wrongdoers﴿ [Āl ʿImrān 3:128].

Musnad Aḥmad 119

its isnad reaches the standard of al-Bukhārī.
Chain: Aḥmad ibn Ḥanbal → Yazīd ibn Hārūn → Ḥumayd al-Ṭawīl → Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) → the Prophet ﷺ. Rijāl: (1) Yazīd ibn Hārūn: thiqa mutqin. (2) Ḥumayd al-Ṭawīl: thiqa; Anas ibn Mālik: Companion. Takhrīj: Aḥmad (3/179), no. 13083; Muslim (1791). Al-Bukhārī reports this event from Ibn ʿUmar via a different chain (4069). The verse revealed is a reminder that the Prophet ﷺ is but a warner and bearer of glad tidings; the decision of mercy or punishment rests with Allah alone.
