Three-Narrator Ahadith 106
Anas ibn Mālik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported:
Ḥumayd said: Anas was asked whether the Prophet ﷺ used to raise his hands [in supplication]. He replied: “On a Friday, someone said to him [during the sermon]: ‘O Messenger of Allah, the rains have stopped, the land has dried up, and the livestock are perishing.’ He raised his hands until I could see the whiteness of his armpits, and prayed for rain. At that moment there was not a single cloud in the sky. Yet by the time we had finished the [Friday] prayer, the rain was so heavy that even a young man whose home was nearby found it difficult to get back to his family. The following Friday, people said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, our houses have been ruined and the travelers are stranded.’ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled at how quickly the son of Adam grows weary, and said: ‘O Allah, let it rain around us and not upon us.’ And the clouds dispersed from above Madīnah.” Reference: Musnad Aḥmad 106
