مُسْنَدُ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ
Three-Narrator Ahadith 42
Sufyān ibn ʻUyaynah narrated to us that ʻAmr ibn Dīnār heard Jābir ibn ʻAbdullāh say, “When the [verse] ‘Say:
He has power to send punishment upon you from above you’ was revealed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘I seek refuge in Your Face.’ When the words ‘or from beneath your feet’ were revealed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘I seek refuge in Your Face.’ And when the words ‘or to confound you in [hostile] factions and make you taste the violence of one another’ were revealed, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘This is lighter,’ or perhaps he said, ‘This is easier.’”

حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ عَمْرٍو، سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ: ﴾هُوَ الْقَادِرُ عَلَى أَنْ يَبْعَثَ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابًا مِنْ فَوْقِكُمْ﴿ [الأنعام: 65]، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَعُوذُ بِوَجْهِكَ»، فَلَمَّا نَزَلَتْ: ﴾أَوْ مِنْ تَحْتِ أَرْجُلِكُمْ﴿ [الأنعام: 65]، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَعُوذُ بِوَجْهِكَ»، فَلَمَّا نَزَلَتْ ﴾أَوْ يَلْبِسَكُمْ شِيَعًا وَيُذِيقَ بَعْضَكُمْ بَأْسَ بَعْضٍ﴿ [الأنعام: 65]، قَالَ: «هَذِهِ أَهْوَنُ أَو أَيْسَرُ»
