مُسْنَدُ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا
Three-Narrator Ahadith 2
Ibn ʿUmar (رضي الله عنهما) reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“Do not enter upon these people who were punished [i.e., the ruins of Thamūd at al-Ḥijr] unless you are weeping. If you cannot weep, then do not enter upon them, for I fear that what befell them may befall you.”

حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ دِينَارٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «لَا تَدْخُلُوا عَلَى هَؤُلَاءِ الْقَوْمِ الَّذِينَ عُذِّبُوا إِلَّا أَنْ تَكُونُوا بَاكِينَ، فَإِنْ لَمْ تَكُونُوا بَاكِينَ، فَلَا تَدْخُلُوا عَلَيْهِمْ، فَإِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ يُصِيبَكُمْ مِثْلُ مَا أَصَابَهُمْ.»

isnād meets the conditions of al-Bukhārī and Muslim (al-Arnaʾūṭ, no. 4561).
Isnād and Rijāl: Imām Aḥmad ← Sufyān ibn ʿUyayna ← ʿAbdullāh ibn Dīnār ← ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUmar (same chain as Ḥadīth 1). Sufyān ibn ʿUyayna: thiqah ḥāfiẓ. ʿAbdullāh ibn Dīnār: thiqah. ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUmar: Companion. Takhrīj: al-Bukhārī, nos. 433, 3381; Muslim, no. 2980; Ibn Mājah, no. 1054. Context: The Prophet (ﷺ) said this to his companions in 9 AH during the expedition to Tabūk when they passed through al-Ḥijr, the archaeological remains of the Thamūd, whom Allāh destroyed with a thunderbolt. The command to enter weeping is an expression of contemplation and humility before Allāh’s punishment of those who defied His messengers; scholars have noted that passing through such sites merely for sightseeing is impermissible (see Permanent Committee Fatwā no. 26/394).
